Spain’s Javier Dominguez’s journey to online poker pro is a well-travelled path. He went to university to study Mathematics, and later Psychology, and it was there that he learned to play poker. He’d always been into card games, especially Magic: The Gathering, and decided to make the move into poker full time when he saw how well his friends were doing online.
He’s been making a healthy living from the game ever since, playing a selection of games online, with his biggest success so far coming from tournament play. He’s had several final table finishes in some of PokerStars biggest and most prestigious events, including a cash in the Sunday Million for $148,000. Javier also has a string of impressive money finishes at live events across Europe. Highlights include a 55th place finish at the London leg of the European Poker Tour (EPT) in 2008, good for prize money of $14,934, plus final table appearances at many local events in his native Spain.
He claims that being picked for a spot on the team is a dream come true, and that he’s now looking to improve his skills and promote the game he loves to new players across Spain and Latin America. He’s still an active player on the Magic scene, competing against friends in his downtime away from poker, and he also likes playing video games. Javier Dominguez is a member of Team Online, and you can find him playing under the screen name ‘El_Cañonero’.
