The Asia Pacific Poker Tour today unveiled the 21-event tournament schedule for the 2014 Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP) which takes place at ‘PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams’ from October 24 to November 9.

The 17-day schedule includes fourteen ‘ACOP Title Events’ with a wide range of buy-ins from HK $2,500 to HK $500,000. As with previous years, each of those winners will receive one of the prestigious ‘Spadies’ trophies.

Taking centre stage will once again be the HK $100,000 (~USD $13,000) buy-in Main Event which comes with a HK $15 million prize pool guarantee. The eventual champion will be awarded the coveted Gold Spadie.

Last year, the ACOP poker festival had totals of 2,235 players and awarded more than HK $49 million (USD $6.34m) in prize money. Those numbers are all expected to grow significantly in the third running of the poker series.

“There’s a new level of excitement for poker in Macau this year and we’re anticipating a big turnout for the ACOP.” said APPT President Danny McDonagh. “We’ll have further announcements as we approach the event date but the fact we’ve received player confirmations this far in advance just illustrates the excitement for the ACOP in Year 3.”
Seven members of Team PokerStars have already confirmed their attendance including Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier and Randy ‘nanonoko’ Lew, who join their Asian counterparts Raymond Wu, Bryan Huang, Vivian Im, Naoya Kihara, and Celina Lin.

“The ACOP is where the world’s best players compete in Asia.” said Wu, who claimed the first ever Spadie in 2012 after winning the Deepstack Championship event. “I want to be the best and that means beating the best. The ACOP attracts some of greatest minds in Asia as well as internationally. Those trophies represent something special and a collection of Spadies means you’d be good enough to play with anyone in the world.”
Online satellites are running now to the ACOP.

Schedule Highlights

The opening weekend will kick off with the HK $2,500 Rebuy Championship and HK $11,000 Deepstack Championship which comes with HK $500,000 and HK $1,000,000 prize pool guarantee respectively.

One of the new additions to the schedule is the ‘2m GTD Spadie’ which is a HK $8,800 buy-in event and, as the name suggests, comes with HK $2 million in guaranteed prize money. Players will be able to qualify for this event online.

This year, high stakes players will have two big buy-in events to choose from. On November 1, the ACOP will run its first ever Super High Roller event which has a HK $500,000 (~USD $65k) buy-in and allows for two rebuys. The HK $250,000 (~USD $32k) High Roller event is a freezeout and takes place on November 8.
