The City of Dreams is the home of poker in Macau

Over the next two weeks, PokerStars LIVE Macau are hosting their flagship tournament.

It’s their crown jewel, their crème de la crème.

And it’s steadily becoming one of the largest tournament series in the world.

Many years ago Macau was the emerging market of the poker scene. Nobody knew how big it would get, but everyone knew the potential was huge.

Now, in 2014, we are in the midst of the third and likely largest ACOP in the event’s history.

There is no doubting that PokerStars LIVE Macau continues to grow from strength to strength.

Over the last twelve months they have hosted some of the largest tournaments, by field size, in the world.

They ran a ~US$1,400 freezeout event (Red Dragon) with just under 1,000 entrants. There haven’t been many tournaments at that buy-in level with that many unique runners in the current era of poker.

It’s as simple as saying this: while many events around the world are experiencing diminishing, or plateauing numbers, PokerStars LIVE Macau is experiencing growth.

These next two weeks could really see PokerStars LIVE Macau get the respect and credit it deserves by catapulting the ACOP into the upper echelon of tournaments around the world.

There will be plenty of these bad boys on the tables

The attention will first be on the massive Macau Billionaire Poker Super High Roller.

It’s a HK$500,000 buy-in event with two rebuys and with interest from businessmen and poker enthusiasts from around the region, along with some of the world’s best and well-known players, it’s sure to be massive.

If the words ‘Macau Billionaire Poker’ are familiar that’s because this is the same group that were involved in the Guangdong Asia Millions that was held in 2013.

Better known as the ‘GDAM’, the massive HK$1 million buy-in high roller saw 71 unique players and 54 rebuys create a HK$119,375,000 prize pool. It was one of the largest tournaments of all time with Germany’s Niklas Heinecker pocketing a ridiculous ~US$4.5 million.

With a smaller buy-in it will be tough for the MBP Super High Roller to reach those astronomical heights here at the 2014 ACOP, but there is a huge amount of interest and there is no doubting that it will be a massive event.

The tournament kicks off from 6:00 p.m. local time on Saturday, November 1st and runs as a three-day event. There will be live updates right here at the PokerStarsBlog so be sure to check in on the action.

Once the MBP Super High Roller is all wrapped up it will be time for the HK$100,000 ACOP Main Event. This is the third edition of the tournament. There were 184 entrants in 2012 and 203 last year when Sunny Jung picked up HK$4,353,200 (~US$560,000).

Winning the ACOP Main Event would feel good. Sunny Jung thinks so

At the ~US$13,000 buy-in level and the field likely to grow once again, you can bet your bottom dollar that the ACOP Main Event is going to be quite large. To find out how large, be sure to return to the PokerStarsBlog when the cards are in the air on Day 1 from 3:00pm on Tuesday, November 4th.

The MBP Super High Roller and the ACOP Main Event are certainly enough to keep any poker enthusiast satisfied, but come Saturday November 8th there will be the HK$250,000 Macau Billionaire Poker High Roller. This one kicks off while the Main Event plays it’s final table.

Without getting too hyperbolic, that’s an incredible amount of poker over the next two weeks.

Hold onto your hats, poker fans.
