Home / Uncategorized / ANZPT6 Perth: Familiar territory for Fazzino on Day 2

Another quick day in the Crown Perth Poker Room has come to an end. The players are bagging and tagging, and heading off to enjoy another balmy evening in Perth, feeling rather chuffed to live to fight another day in the ANZPT Perth Main Event.

A little over six hours ago, they were just one of 145 survivors who took their seats for Day 2 of play, but now just 48 remain standing. Along the way we saw the likes of Daniel Levy, Mile Krstanoski, Tom Grigg, Tony Tartaglia, Minh Nguyen, Oliver Gill, Jesse McKenzie, Jim Collopy, Ash Warner, James Broom and Andy Hinrichsen sent to the exit and off to enjoy the other side of Perth. There are some quality players in that mix, so it’s a testament to those who are still alive in the Main Event.

At the other end of the scale, some new faces started to emerge in the Crown Perth Poker Room. Stephen Woodhead, Sam Russell-Anderson, Dylan Honeyman, Cale Maclean and overnight chip leader Brian McAllister all enjoyed time towards the top of the chip counts.

It looked like Patrick Mahoney was going to take the chip lead when he bagged up a very healthy 255,000, however he was pipped by WA local Sal Fazzino who sealed 258,200 chips at the end of six levels.

It’s a familiar position for Fazzino. Just last month he was the chip leader after three days of play when just 36 players remained in the Aussie Millions Main Event. It’s something he remembered all too well when we pointed out that he’d snatched the chip lead at the end of play today.

“That didn’t end too well last time,” said Fazzino with a wry smile.

Fazzino was referring to his fall from grace where he was bundled out of the Aussie Millions Main Event in 14th place. He collected $70,000 that day, but that figure was probably one zero short of what he really wanted.

Perhaps this is Fazzino’s opportunity for redemption as he draws on his experiences from the Aussie Millions to make a big run at the ANZPT Perth title.

Standing in his way are the likes of Dean Blatt (168,200), ANZPT Auckland champion David Lim (165,000), Dylan Honeyman (160,600), Justin Walch (149,000), day one chip leader Brian McAllister (146,200), Tristan Bain (108,100), YouTube sensation Ricky Kroesen (100,600), WSOP APAC bracelet winner Aaron Lim (63,900) and John Aufdemkampe (49,800).

Head to the live reporting section of the ANZPT Perth coverage for the complete list of chip counts and Day 3 seating draw.

Play will resume on Saturday at 12:30pm (GMT+8) with Day 3 set to provide some big moments in this tournament. First, we’ll have to burst that pesky money bubble for the top 27 players before surging towards the final table of nine by the end of play. It should be an exciting day so we hope you’ll join us once again right here on the PokerStars Blog. Until then, it’s good night from Perth!
