It’s Super Saturday at the ANZPT Sydney Main Event with Day 2 about to kick off at The Star casino in the harbour city. Our 168 surviving players have hopefully enjoyed a relaxing morning, perhaps a walk through the city or brunch on the harbour, and now they are finding their seats in the poker room for a big day ahead.

It’s a great achievement in itself to reach Day 2 of a main event, but it can quite easily all be for nought if things go awry today. Even for our big stacks. Only the top 54 players will finish in the money in this event, so there’s going to be no joy for over two-thirds of those unbagging their chips this afternoon.

At the other end of the scale, those who survived by the skin of their teeth now have a fresh day to turn their fortunes around. On many occasions we’ve seen short stacks come back on a new day and run their rags into riches.

We might just reach the money today, it depends on how many levels will be played. There’s an extra day in the ANZPT Sydney Main Event schedule this year, and after playing a full eight levels yesterday, we’re well on track. So there could be a few interesting moments later in the day if we get close to the money bubble.

They’re all chasing Jazz Mathers, our Day 1a chip leader, who carries the heaviest bag into play today.

Mathers has 195,200 in chips, while Day 1b’s Michael Pinzone and Adrian Attenborough aren’t too far behind.

Also still in contention are the likes of Reza Vakili, Dan Neilson, Jordan Westmorland, Dale Marsland, Alex Lee, Anthony Aston, Jesse McKenzie, Dave Allan, Christina Pie, Dylan Honeyman, Martin Kozlov, Jake Balsiger, Australian Poker Hall of Famers Billy Argyros and Mel Judah, former ANZPT Sydney champion Michael Kanaan and PokerStars Team Online member Roy Bhasin.

The final instructions have been given, the cards have been shuffled and we’re under way on Day 2!
