The Asia Pacific Poker Tour 9 Manila kicked off to a very good start with the first side event, the Warm-Up (PHP3M Guaranteed) event, bringing in a combined total of 295 entries for the first two Day 1 flights. With one more flight to finish up today, the prize pool has already exceeded the guarantee early in the day.
Recap of Day 1a
A total of 126 entries were recorded and by the end of tournament player, 25 players made the cut into Day 2. Leading the pack with 95,900 chips is Hyungtaek Jo from South Korea. Following right behind him his Anders Christensen from the United Kingdom with 93,200 chips, and Rommel Angeles from the Philippines with 92,600 chips. Other notables also surviving the night were Soo Jo Kim and Jung Keun Kang, both from Korea, Mikhail Olenikov from Russia, and Michael Galang from the Philippines to name a few.
Among those unable to make the cut were Florencio Campomanes (Philippines), David Colclough (UK), Nickolai Alexandrov (USA), Hideki Takafuji (Japan), Manuel Blaschke (Austria), Kai Paulsen (Norway), Mike Takayama (Philippines), and Srinivas Polishetty (India).
Recap of Day 1b
Day 1b saw a higher turnout of 169 entries recorded but with many falling, only 23 of them qualified into Day 2. At the top of the rung is Ayhan Agdas (UK) with 156,800 chips. Running second is Richard Marquez (Philippines) with 128,600 chips followed closely behind by fellow countryman Richard Ko with 128,100 chips. Other players making the cut were Sam Nee (Malaysia), Anh Tuan Nguyen (Vietnam), Lester Edoc (Philippines), John Tech (Philippines), and Hideki Takafuji to mention a few.
Amongst the fallen were Reynaldo Concepcion (Philippines), Seung Soo Jeon (Korea), Kenji Kurashina (Japan), Jessie Leonarez (Philippines), Wenceslao Sombero (Philippines), Jack Liew (Singapore), and Byeongcheol Kim (South Korea).
Day 1c in progress
At the time of writing, there are 182 entries recorded which means the prize pool has already surpassed PHP4M with two more hours of late registration still available. Taking a walk around the room, Team PokerStars Pro Asia Bryan Huang (Singapore) is in the field and seated right beside him is Carlos Chang (Taiwan) who went deep at the WSOP 2015 Little One for One-Drop event. Other notables scattered throughout the room are Victor Chong (Malaysia), Norbert Koh (Singapore), Kristian Faering (Denmark), Sam Razavi (England), Mark Benasa (Philippines), Julian Hasse (Germany), Jae Kyung Sim aka Simba (South Korea), Brian McAllister (Australia), Lloyd Fontillas (Philippines), and Jae Chul Chang (Japan).
Some players unable to make the cut into day 2 from the previous flights have also returned namely, Kenji Kurashina, Srininvas Polishetty, Wenceslao Sombero, Jerwin Pasco, and Byeongcheol Kim to mention a few. There are also a few qualifiers in the field looking to bag a bigger stack to take into day 2. One of those players is Eric Sia from the Philippines who already qualified at day 1b.
