Home / Uncategorized / APPT Melbourne: The end for Bentley

It had to happen. Four-handed play reached a deadlock after the whirlwind that swept through the Crown Poker Room in the first hour and a half of this APPT Melbourne final table. The players were deep and they were able to play a little post-flop poker. It slowed the excitement for the fans on the rail but it turned up the psychological warfare as Tom Grigg and Wayne Bentley in particular started to mess with each other’s mind.

Bentley caught the upper-hand when Grigg found himself value-betting the second-best hand, but ultimately Grigg had the last laugh.

The action folded to Bentley in the small blind and he raised to 120,000. Grigg called in the big blind and the flop came down 5♥ 3♠ 5♣ . Both players checked and the turn brought the 8♣ . Bentley checked again and Grigg bet 130,000. Bentley responded by moving all in which brought a quick call from Grigg who held 8♠ 7♠ for top pair. Bentley opened Q♣ 7♣ for a flush draw. The river brought the 4♦ to see the pot pushed to Grigg and the end for Bentley.

It’s been a great run for the PokerStars qualifier. He sat behind a large tower of chips for most of the past two days and certainly caused a ripple throughout the poker room. Usually seen driving taxis for 14 hours a day in England, Bentley has converted his satellite win into $87,575.

So that leaves us with three. Tom Grigg and Sam Razavi both have around 2.7 million while Keith Walker is sitting tight and picking his spots with a stack of 2.2 million.
The blinds are up to 20,000/40,000 with a 5,000 chip ante so there’s still plenty of play ahead of us.
