Day 3 in the books; Final Table is set!
A short, but action-filled day has come to an end with Marcel Schreiner holding onto the chip lead. Here’s how they will line up tomorrow:

7:20pm: Jackson Zheng rivers final table
Jackson Zheng has been bundled out of the APPT Queenstown Main Event painfully close to back-to-back APPT final tables. And it was a nasty river blow that did the damage.
Zheng raised it up from under the gun to 10,000 and Matty Yates made the call in the small blind to see a flop of 10♥ K♠4♦ . Yates checked it to Zheng who bet 8,500. Yates made the call and they were off to the turn which delivered the Q♠.
This was the action card as Yates checked, Zheng bet 24,000, Yates check-raised all in and Zheng snap-called off his last 90,000 with K♣ Q♣ for two pair. Yates tabled Aâ™ Q♥ for a pair, overcard and an inside straight draw – one of which he’d need to hit to bring the day to an end.
The rail were calling for all sorts of cards, but it was Zheng himself who tried to mislead the Poker Gods by calling for a jack on the river which would spell doom for his tournament. The reverse-rail didn’t work, as the J♥ appeared right on cue and Zheng’s tournament was over. He’ll collect NZ$7,720 for his 10th place finish while Yates will be close to the overnight chip lead when the chips are bagged with around 525,000 chips.
7:15pm: Level up, blinds 2,500-5,000, ante 500
7:12pm: Double for Knox
Carl Knox has found a big double up through Tom Grigg to stay alive in the APPT Queenstown Snowfest Main Event.
After Knox raised from the cutoff to 8,500, Grigg made the call on the button to see a heads-up flop of 2♥ Q♠9♠. Knox continuation-bet for 11,700 before Grigg moved all in and Knox called off his last 20,900.
Knox showed Q♥ 9♥ for top two pair as Grigg was drawing with his J♣ 10♠straight draw. The turn was the 5♥ and river the J♦ to double Knox to 190,000. Grigg is still in good shape with 275,000.
7:10pm: Caris cut by the Dong
In a battle of the blinds, Charles Caris moved his last chips in preflop from the small blind with A♥ 2♦ but Jonathan Karamalikis made the call with 10♣ 10♥ in the big blind.
The board ran out 9♠K♣ Q♣ 8♣ Q♠to leave Caris heading to the cashier to pick up NZ$7,720 for his 11th place finish as Karamalikis gets himself back up to 170,000.
7:05pm: From freeroll to thousands, Vickers cashes out
After qualifying for this tournament from a freeroll online on PokerStars, Gavin Vickers has turned his freeroll into a very nice NZ$7,720 score.
He’s out in 12th place after Tom Grigg made a full house in a multi-way pot. Hugh Cohen opened from under the gun to 8,500 and picked up callers in Carl Knox on the button and Grigg in the small blind, before Vickers moved all in for 10,500 in the big blind. The three players were obligated to call as the flop landed J♥ J♣ 8♣ .
Action was heavy in the side pot as action checked to Cohen who bet 11,500. Knox and Grigg both called, and then Grigg checked dark when the 5♦ hit the turn. Cohen bet for 22,500 which was enough for Knox to fold, but Grigg called again, and then checked dark once more before the 2♥ landed. Cohen checked behind.
Cohen opened 10♠10♥ but Grigg held J♠5♠for the full house as Vickers was never in the hunt with his K♠6♣ as he heads home in 12th place after a great run.
6:55pm: Yates dints the Dong
Jonathan Karamalikis opened with a raise to 8,000 from the button and Matty Yates defended from the big blind to see a flop of 3♦ 3♣ A♥ .
Yates checked it over to Karamalikis who bet just 7,000. Yates check-raised to 18,500 and Karamalikis made the call as the 2♥ hit the turn. Yates bet 27,000 before it was Karamalikis’ turn to raise as he made it 60,000. Yates called and the river landed the 6♦ .
Yates decided to move all in, covering his opponent, but Karamalikis insta-folded to slip to just 82,000 with Yates now flying high on 400,000.

With another Cohen heading towards an APPT Queenstown final table, PokerStars.tv hostess Lynn Gilmartin caught up with Hugh during the previous break for a quick chat:
6:45pm: Unlucky 13th for McKay
PokerStars qualifier Ryan McKay had flown under the radar for most of the tournament as he nursed his short stack for lengthy periods of time, but his run has come to an end in 13th place.
From under the gun, McKay moved all in for 63,500 with Hugh Cohen making the call in the big blind.
McKay: 3♣ 3â™
Cohen: 10♥ 10â™
The board fell J♥ 9♥ 6♣ 7♥ A♥ and with Cohen holding the only heart, his hand was good to take the pot and move up to 285,000 as McKay collects NZ$6,000 from the cashier.
6:40pm: Paurini perishes
Matty Yates raised to 10,600 from under the gun before Marcel Schreiner three-bet to 23,600 from middle position. Ben Paurini moved all in from the small blind for his last 64,600 to force a fold from Yates but Schreiner made the call.
Schreiner: 5♥ 5♦
Paurini: Aâ™ Qâ™
The board was spread 4♦ 9♥ K♣ 9♦ 10♣ to leave Schreiner’s pair in front and eliminate Paurini in 14th place for a collect of NZ$6,000. The rich get richer as Schreiner moves up to 595,000 chips.
6:35pm: Caris sets up a double
With Daniel Laidlaw opening for a raise to 8,500 in middle position, Charles Caris looked down at 4♠4♣ and decided to move his last 41,800 all in from the small blind. Laidlaw asked for a count before committing to a call with his A♠Q♠.
The race was on with Caris’ tournament life flashing before his eyes as the dealer revealed a Q♦ in the window as he started to fan the flop. The tension built as the dealer fumbled with the cards before the gasps went around the table as it was revealed J♣ 4♦ Q♦ . Laidlaw’s pair had just been crushed as Caris found a set. The turn was the 2♦ and the river a meaningless 7♦ to double Caris to 86,000.
6:30pm: Double Xia
Xiao Dong Xia has found a valuable double up when he moved his short stack in preflop with Q♥ J♥ . Carl Knox made the call with 9♠9♦ but lost the race as the board ran out 7♥ 10♦ Q♣ A♣ 8♠.
Xia doubles to 117,000 with Knox back to 125,000.
6:25pm: Swannack surrenders
Cole Swannack is the first to visit the cashier in 15th place after running into a monster. Swannack opened to 8,600 from the button before Matty Yates three-bet to 19,600 from the big blind. Swannack quickly motioned all in and Yates instantly called!
Yates: K♦ K♣
Swannack: 6♠5♣
Swannack got a sweat but ultimately the board of 2♣ A♥ 4♦ 5♥ K♥ left Yates with the goods to move up to 240,000 and eliminate Swannack in 15th place for NZ$6,000 in prize money.
6:15pm: Play resumes
The fifteen remaining players are now back in the Summit Room of the SKYCITY Queenstown Casino as Day 3 of the APPT Queenstown Snowfest Main Event continues.
With all players now safely in the money and NZ$6,000 secured we should see a few more risks being taken from the short stacks.
Meanwhile Marcel Schreiner has been able to extend his chip lead to a very healthy 523,500 chips. Daniel Laidlaw and Tom Grigg are next best.
