Home / Uncategorized / APPT7 Queenstown: The ride ends for Raj

In 2009, Raj Ramakrishnan finished 4th in the Aussie Millions Main Event. Now he can add another 4th place to his poker resume after his recent elimination from the APPT Queenstown Main Event.

It was a rollercoaster ride for the best part of two days for Ramakrishnan. There were times today where the luck was against him, after losing with pocket queens on at least three separate occasions that we know of. Yet he caught a miraculous runner-runner straight to stay alive after Jonathan Bredin had flopped two pair.

In the end, it all came down to a coin flip.

Bredin opened the action with a raise to 50,000 from the small blind and Ramakrishnan moved all in from the big blind with 5♦ 5♥ . Bredin instantly called with A♠ K♣ with both players pretty much even in chips.

The board ran out 3♥ 10♦ A♣ 9♠ 10♣ to see Bredin pair his ace for a massive double up.

Ramakrishnan was left with just 6,000 in pocket change, which went into the middle on the very next hand and never returned. Ramakrishnan could only find 5♣ 4â™  in the small blind to take on Daniel Laidlaw’s 10♣ 9♣ but two pair on the flop for Laidlaw was more than enough to take it down.

Ramakrishnan desperately wanted the title, but for now, he’ll have to be content with the NZ$28,900 for 4th place.

And then there were three!

Daniel Laidaw is out in front with around 1.1 million with Jonathan Bredin sitting with 750,000 while Chiu Lee seems to be eternally on the short stack but somehow surviving with around 300,000.
