Macau is notorious for drawing some tournament bosses and this week has been no exception.
Deep into Day 2 here for the APPT Main Event, a crowd is gathered around the rail to watch the players in this tough field attempt to make a deep run.
Two of those still in contention are all too familiar with deep runs in big tournaments. They are US- based Irishman Steve O’Dwyer and France’s Nicolas ‘Legadzo’ Cardyn.
He started off the year with a huge score and his best yet with a first place finish in the PCA Paradise Island Super High Roller 8 Handed where he collected $1,872,580.
Subsequently this year O’Dwyer cashed for $126,181 with a sixth place in the Aussie Millions AU$25k Challenge, third in the €25k Monte Carlo EPT High Roller 8 Handed for $589,297 and he shipped Event #13 of the Macau Poker Cup right here for $127,925.
While he’s had a hugely successful year already, O’Dwyer told us that this might be the last event he plays for a while.
“I’ve played poker on several continents all year,” he said. “I really need to take some time off and just relax.”
Cardyn is another one in the field with an impressive poker resume. It’s his second time here in Macau and he’s looking for another big score this week.
While he has no live cashes this year so far, the bubble just burst here in the Main Event, so Cardyn has locked up his first one for at least $5,600.
We only have one more level of play today until players bag up their chips and return tomorrow for Day 3. It’s no surprise that at this stage O’Dwyer and Cardyn are making a good run at the next APPT title here in Macau. By last reports O’Dwyer is hovering around 240,000 in chips and Cardyn is stacking 325,000.
