More risk, more reward.

Only three tables remain here in the Main Event as we play down to 7 handed today, but the other side of the room is swarming with players as the HK$100k High Roller kicked off at 5pm.

Not only that, but a satellite into the High Roller is drawing to its final stages, and it’s causing quite a stir among the rail. Screams are coming from those sweating the action, and while it may be in another language, we’re pretty confident that they’re screams of excitement.

As those players fight it out for one of the 10 HK$100k tickets, chips are already changing hands in the target tournament.

Into Level 2 here 38 players have already bought themselves a ticket. With late registration still open and the players from the satellite set to join the action, we’re expecting another solid APPT9 Macau prize pool.

Of those 38, it’s no surprise that Steve O’Dwyer is leading the way in the early stages. We’ve already discussed his previous success extensively this week, and the High Roller specialist will be right at home in this event.

O’Dwyer was the benefactor of the first and only elimination so far. While we were unable to catch the casualty’s name, O’Dwyer recapped the action for us. He had a set of fives on a 10-high board, the story goes, and clearly he maximized his value.

Another player grinding up a stack in the High Roller is Team PokerStars Pro Celina Lin. She just tweeted an update of her progress.

Lin seems to have used some well-timed aggression to help her collect some chips. In a recent hand, opponent Geoffrey Mooney opened the action with a raise to 1,500 and Lin called. A third player, Alberto Gomez three-bet to 5,500 from the button and Mooney made the call. It was then that Lin pulled the trigger with a four-bet to 26,800. Both opponents tossed their hands away and Lin scooped the pot.

A new table was just added to the High Roller field as the satellite entrants joined the action. In the Main Event it’s the opposite sight, with nineteenth place just eliminated and players split into the final two tables.

The current chip leader is Yat Wai Cheng on 1,225,000 with over twice an average stack. We’re currently at Level 21 and blinds at 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante. Let’s see how long it takes to play down to the final 7 tonight. Stay tuned!
