As Day 2 of the APPT Manila Main Event hits a bit of a lull approaching the money bubble, we thought it would be a good opportunity to look ahead at the poker calendar to see what was coming up on the Asia Pacific Poker Tour.
The next major event on the APPT will take us back to the familiar confines of the PokerStars LIVE Macau poker room for the 23rd edition of the Macau Poker Cup.
This seventeen-day festival will run from August 28th through until September 13th and will include 17 official Asia Player of the Year events.
The schedule offers an exciting variety of events, some which have developed a strong following in their own right.
The HK$6,000 Baby Dragon is one of the first events of the schedule. It’s an event that always attracts a huge field, with a great structure and HK$1,000,000 prize pool guaranteed. Bobby Zhang, Yuhito Hayashi and Eric Fung are former Baby Dragon winners, with Fung defeating 289 entrants at MPC22 to take down the HK$359,282 top prize.
The 2-Day HK$5,000 Megastack returns in the middle of the schedule with a HK$500,000 guarantee before the Red Dragon Main Event kicks off on September 5th.
Without a doubt, the most visually-stunning trophy in the poker world will again be up for grabs along with a prize pool that will most definitely shatter the HK$5,000,000 guarantee. There are four opening flights for the HK$12,000 Main Event and tournament officials are quietly hoping to see a field that may crack the elusive 1,000-player mark.
Of course the big story from MPC22 was with China’s Yuguang Li. The 36-year old businessman topped a field of 987 players to win the Red Dragon Main Event for HK$1,848,000 (~US$238,000). If that wasn’t enough, just 24 hours later, Li also took down the High Roller Event for another HK$1,647,000 (~US$219,000).
It was one of the most remarkable doubles that has ever been seen in poker history. We’re not expecting to see that feat matched, but the HK$80,000 High Roller event returns on the final weekend which will cap off the championships with another enormous prize pool.
