Home / News / Blowout Series: All the news from Day 7

The Blowout Series caught fire on Saturday night, with the conclusion of the Bash, some huge-name winners and an “insane” stream from Lex Veldhuis. And it gets even bigger on Sunday. Here’s the latest from the tables…

BLOWOUT BULLETIN

Baker and the Brazilians in the Bash: The biggest tournament of Blowout Series so far, the enormous New Year’s Bash, which attracted 219,967 entries of $11 apiece, came to its conclusion late on Saturday. After Germany’s “Fröbel” was knocked out in fifth, there were three Brazilians and one Canadian left. This quartet decided to look at the numbers and arrange a chop. Kevin “BigBakes7” Baker, from Ontario, was chip-leader at the time and he took $98,240.96. That was fortunate for him as Baker went out next. That left three Brazilians to take first, second and third place, with former WCOOP champion Luis “NetoGamboa” Gamboa, from Sao Paulo, claiming the first prize of $92,746. “nane pg” won $92,447 for second and DiegoBarbosa87 took $75,863 for third. So although it’ll go in the history books as a Brazilian-only podium, Baker has his little secret that he actually beat them all.

"WhatIfGod," EPT Online 16 Main Event Champion

“WhatIfGod” was back to winning ways

Is he one of us? The Swedish player known only as “WhatIfGod” had a stellar 2020, with victory in the EPT Online Main Event the clear standout success. That was worth more than $1 million and burnished a reputation originally forged in 2014 when he won two WCOOP titles. (WhatIfGod went on to win in the High Roller Club the following week.) WhatIfGod is back at it, folks, and last night won his first Blowout Series title, taking down the $530 8-Game (Event #22-H). Not as many people play 8-Game as they do hold’em, so this victory, over a field of 123 entries, was not quite so spectacular as the EPT success. But WhatIfGod took $12,834 after a heads-up deal with Germany’s “wiNNin83” — and adds Blowout to his exceptional resume.

A chop for for Patrick “pads1161” Leonard

Tr!pleeeee beats Leonard to add to haul: The $1,050 8-Max tournament (Event #17-H), which started on Friday, was the first of the Blowout Series to finish on Saturday night. It also very nearly ended with another victory for one of the best-known players at the PokerStars tables. From a starting field of 172 entries, Patrick “pads1161” Leonard was one of two players left and he agreed a deal with Poland’s “Tr!pleeeee“, who has a fairly decent resume of his or her own. Tr!pleeeee has won four SCOOP titles, contributing to lifetime cashes on PokerStars of more than $3 million. Tr!pleeeee can also now claim a Blowout Series victory as the heads-up battle went in his or her direction. Tr!pleeeee won $32,190.62 to Leonard’s $30,557.86, and a first victory in this new series. (See “Top Tweets” section below for a small coda to all this.)

Low-stakes mixed game specialist: The player known as “Skyhawke_2” represents Guernsey in the Channel Islands, a British Crown Dependency just off the coast of France. It’s small and beautiful, with a population of a little more than 60,000, and not especially known for its poker. However Skyhawke_2 is doing a good job to bring some more recognition and last night won the $5.50 buy-in 8-Game (Event #22-L) title, adding that victory to previous successes in Bounty Builder from 2018 and a HORSE event in 2016. It seems that Skyhawke_2 is something of a low-stakes mixed game specialist and the practice paid dividends with a victory worth $7,394 after a heads-up deal with “laurenz111” of the Netherlands. laurenz111 actually took slightly more — $7,407 — but the title went to Guernsey.

Lex’s most insane stream

Lex’s brilliant run continues: The bleachers were packed around Lex Veldhuis‘s poker stream last night, where the Dutch streaming star went on the kind of run he said he had been waiting for for years. He finished the night chip leader in the $2,100 buy-in High Roller Club Saturday KO (14 left of 172; $31K up top) and is also in the top 150 of the $215 version of the same event overnight (4,281 left; $52K up top), promising two big Day 2s alongside his entry into the $5 million guaranteed Big Blowout! Veldhuis also made the final table of the $215 buy-in hyper-turbo (Event #23-H), where there was another $34K on offer to the winner. However, Veldhuis lost a huge flip when stacks were super short to finish in sixth. That cleared the way for “vincelis”, from Lithuania, to take the top spot. Veldhuis goes again tonight, so be sure to catch the stream. His fellow Team Pro, Andre Akkari, is also in the last 14 of the Saturday KO.

Another $5 million on the Big Blowout! table: The second Big Blowout! tournament of the series takes place today, with a $5 million guaranteed prize pool and a $215 buy-in. It’s an absolutely huge guarantee for the buy-in level and will mean another six-figure score for someone. The tournament gets under way at 1.05pm ET and registration is open for the entire first day. Don’t miss it! Satellites are running continuously.

TWITCH WATCH

Lex Veldhuis described his Saturday night as the “MOST INSANE STREAM EVER” adding that it included “$15K in cashes, day 2’s, wins, FT’s”. Instead of only the highlights, here’s the full insanity. It genuinely was excellent:

TOP TWEETS

Shortly after Tr!pleeeee and Patrick “pads1161” Leonard played to the end of the $1,050 NLHE tournament, Leonard was moved to tweet thanks and praise to his opponent. We can’t comment on exactly how the mistake was made in the chop, but it’s great to see the respect with which these high-stakes players hold one another.

COUNTRIES LEADER BOARD

Nine titles were won overnight and they went to players from nine different countries. Brazil and the Netherlands claimed one apiece, which keeps the top of the leader board the same, but we also now welcome Poland, Guernsey, Denmark, Hungary and Lithuania, all of whom won their first gong on Saturday night.

9 titles – Brazil
8 – Netherlands
5 – Canada, Sweden, UK
3 – Estonia, Mexico, Romania, Russia
2 – Bulgaria, Germany, Ireland
