Christopher Oliver and Andrei Skortsov claim SCOOP titles on a packed Day 5, and Spraggy makes an unfortunate early final table exit. Here’s the latest SCOOP round-up.

BEHIND THE HEADLINES

Not a great moment for Benjamin Spragg

Spraggy’s unfortunate exit: An exciting, albeit heartbreaking experience for his Twitch viewers, Spraggy made the final table of the 17-M: $109 Deepstack event. With a $54k top prize and a fair stack, it looked like the PokerStars ambassador was all set for a big finish. But that’s about as far as it went. A few circuits later, Spraggy made a shove with AK only to get called off by pocket Aces. It was a truly unfortunate exit, made even more bitter by the timely appearance of Lex on Spraggy’s stream mere seconds before the cooler occurred (see Twitch clip of the day). Argentinian player “VivirCuestaVida” went on to win the event for $54,123.

Christopher Oliver gets his second: He’s a player who’s been around a very long time – since 2007 to be precise. Since then, Christopher “ImDaNuts” Oliver has earned over $16.5 million in online tournament winnings, including two WCOOP titles. On Day 5, the Costa Rica based pro bagged the second SCOOP title of his career. He cleared a field of 297 entries in the 17-H: $1,050 Deepstack to claim the top prize of $56,690.

Biggest prize of day in $5k High Roller: There’s nothing like a midweek High Roller to keep the blood pumping! The 18-H was there to provide. Entry numbers were humble enough, yet the $5k price tag made for epic prizes up top. “pampa27” of Argentina made it heads-up and came close to earning their second SCOOP title. They were denied by Renan “Aziz Mancha” Aziz, also hunting the second of his career. Aziz earned $114,187 for first. Pampa’s consolation prize of $79k is not too shabby either.

Finland dominate in NLO8: In the 19-H: $1,050 NLO8, “wnbgambler” took the top spot for a total of $38,866, earning Finland their first SCOOP title of 2022. Amazingly, the top three finishers in that tournament were all from Finland. Over in the medium version of the same event, “calvin7v”, also from Finland, narrowly missed out on the top spot, finishing second. A coincidence? Or do Finnish players have a particular affinity for Omaha?

Players from Finland take the top three spots

Andrei Skortsov earns fifth SCOOP title: Andrei “Premove” Skortsov has been steadily locking up SCOOP titles since 2019, earning his second in 2020, and two more in 2021. Something of an Omaha and specialist, only one of those titles came from a NLHE event. Last night, Premove earned his fifth title, again in an Omaha event, taking down the 19-M for $14,389.

B4NKR0LL3R’s bounty bonanza: Little is known about “B4NKR0LL3R”, other than that they often appear on final tables of medium and high stakes tournaments. Last night the Estonian player ran amok in the 20-H: $1,050 PKO event, taking it down for a total of $52,767 and proving that in bounty tournaments you have to, well… play for the bounties. Half of B4NKR0LL3R’s score (over $26k) came from knockouts.

pinguinho tops leaderboard to close Day 5: The final event of Day 5 was the SCOOP 26: PKO Turbo, an ideal way for players to squeeze in one more attempt at a title. “pinguinho” of Brazil came out on top in the $1,050 high stakes version, earning $34k in knockouts to bring their total prize up to $61,553. That first place finish catapults pinguinho to the top of the High leaderboard and places them in contention for the top spot on the Overall standings.

TWEET OF THE DAY

Tweet of the Day comes from Mason “Pye_Face21” Pye, who currently sits third in the $109 Stud and second in the $1,050 Stud events:

TWITCH WATCH

Picture this. Spraggy is sat on the final table of the SCOOP 17-M. He’s looking down at AK, an ideal hand to shove. In this moment, Lex pops in to Spraggy’s stream to say Hello. Spraggy shoves. He gets called. By Aces. They call it the Curse of Lex. Is Lex responsible for Spraggy busting? You decide…
