EPT Malta: The final day of side-events

March 28, 2015

It’s the last day of the EPT Malta Festival but there’s just enough time for five new events to start today. The €5k NL Turbo and €2k NL Turbo events always attract a stacked field and EPT Malta is no exception. Adrian Mateos won both these events (in one day) at the last EPT stop in Deauville and is back in the fray today, kicking off in the €5k.

This started at noon and the field includes Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov, EPT London champion Benny Spindler, EPT Vienna winner Oleksii Khoroshenin, EPT Berlin winner Kevin MacPhee, EPT Barcelona Super High Roller winner Dan Smith, former Player of the Year Fernando Brito, Fabian Quoss, Dani Stern EPT/GPM Player of the Year Ole Schemion, FPS Deauville High Roller winner Vladimir Troyanovskiy, Timothy Adams, Jeff Rossiter, Salman Behbehani, Yann Dion, Shannon Shorr as well as Stephen Chidwick, who chopped the €2k Event with Katchalov earlier this week. Late registration is open until 2pm, so there might yet be some new arrivals. The €2k event will begin at 4pm so expect many of those in the €5k to immediately jump in that event should they bust this one.

The Malta Megastack is already close to the bubble with just 44 players remaining from the 311 that entered. There will be 39 spots paid a minimum of €415 with a first prize worth €12,100. The other evnt that has just gotten under way is the Turbo Edition of the EPT Main Event, it’s a €300 event with 15 minute levels and so far there are 142 players involved in that one. Later on today there’s the aforementioned €2k Turbo 6-Handed while the last of the 69 events of EPT Malta will be a €100 HyperTurbo beginning at 5pm.

Last night’s €2k HyperTurbo saw 108 runners get involved in a tournament that didn’t finish until nearly 6am. Piotr Franczak won the title and the €53,900 beating EPT4 Prague finalist Juha Lauttmaus (€37,100) heads up. Maxim Panyak (7th – €9,740), Tobias Reinkemeier (€3,880), Timothy Adams (14th – €3,560) and David Yan (15th – €3,560).
