EPT Monte Carlo: “How can you call the flop?”
1 Minute Read
The Team PokerStars Pro Dario Minieri was part of a four-way pot where it was checked to him with the board reading 7♣ J♠8♣ . The young Italian bet 800 and was called in all three spots, including by the new French PokerStars sponsored player Adam Lounis and Michael Tulchinskiy. On the turn, the 4♠appeared and once more all three players checked to Minieri, who this time bet 2,500. Lounis thought for a moment before calling, followed by a fold before Tulchinskiy asked to see how many chips Minieri had left.
Minieri still had about 20,000 behind but that did not stop Tulchinskiy declaring all-in, eventually eliciting folds from each of his opponents. Tulchinskiy then proudly showed 6♣ 5♣ for the turned straight.
“How can you call the flop?” Minieri said. “You only have an open-ended straight flush draw!” He then turned to Adam Lounis and said, “I think I had you beat though.” The Frenchman shook his head.
“Trips?” said Minieri.
“I had a set of eights,” replied Lounis.
Minieri responded with a nod, “Seven-eight.”
On this occasion, the Frenchman’s conservative play has no doubt saved himself some chips.
