EPTThe former Irish Open champion Neil Channing was a late arrival here today.

“So far, the number of hands I’ve misplayed is one,” he said.
“And how many hands have you played?” I asked.
“One.”

The reason for Channing’s late arrival was that the self-admitted poker junkie was playing the £100 rebuy tournament at the Victoria Casino in London, home of the London EPT, until around 2am before getting the early morning flight across to Nice.

“First prize was actually less than the buy-in here, but never mind. I managed to finish sixth from 76 players although they paid 12 players bizarrely, surely it should just be nine spots.”

After passing his big blind to an under-the-gun raise, he then pointed out the table behind us. “Now that looks like a tough table,” he said. Indeed, Dave Ulliot, Stuart Rutter and Rory ‘Mafews’ Matthews were sharing it.

Elsewhere, the rap supremo Nelly is an early casualty. Full details to follow.
