6.16pm: Break
That’s the end of level 13. By our calculations, the next level will be 14. Back soon. — SY

6.15pm: Another one gone
On the last hand of the level Chris Drombrowksi is eliminated when his kings ran into the ace-king which pairs with an ace on the river. Another faller with two levels to go. — SB.

6.14pm: Cheerio
Liv Boeree opened with a raise to 5,500. Kevin Stani called in the next seat and then Viacheslav Rotach moved all in for around 20,000. Boeree (now up to 170,000) thought better of it, but Stani made the call.

Rotach: 10♠ J♦
Stani: A♠ J♥

The flop was a nice one for Rotach, coming 10♥ 7♦ Kâ™  to pair him up, but the turn was A♦ giving Stani the higher pair. The 2â™  river was irrelevant. Rotach picked up his coat. — SY

6.10pm: Oh Danny boy
Danny Ryan is down to 105,000 after doubling up grateful neighbor Miltiadis Kyriakidea. Ryan raised from the button before Kyriakidea moved all-in for another 26,600. Ryan said it was close but getting three-to-one had to call. Showdown:

Ryan: A♠ 8♦
Kyriakidea: Q♦ Q♠

The board ran A♦ Q♣ K♣ A♣ 2â™  . The Cypriot thought he had lost for a moment and when he realized his error he rested his head into Ryan’s chest and the two shared a moment; well Kyriakidea thought they were but I’m not sure Ryan was as comfortable with the pose. The dealer thought Ryan had won the hand too and shoveled the pot his way but order on all fronts was soon restored. –MC

6pm: Two in one go
Andreas Lindblom moved all-in in the cut off for 31,800. Then the player next to him did the same for 26,800 on the button. The action reached Ramzi Jelassi on the big blind who also announced all-in, easily covering the other two players.

Jelassi had good reason to shove, showing A♣ A♠ . This was bad enough but worse for the other two is that they each held pocket queens.

The board ran K♥ K♠ 2♦ 3♠ 4♦ .

“I don’t know what to say,” said Jelassi. Lindblom was gracious in defeat, while the other all-in player, still nameless, was fast in defeat, disappearing to the rail. – SB.

5.50pm: Baeke tops 450k
Allan Baeke has won another pot to move to over 450,000 chips. He was up against Emiliano Conti in a battle of the blinds. The board read 6♣ 3â™  8â™  4♥ and the Dane check-called a 15,700 bet before both checked the 2â™  river. Conti could only reveal K♥ 9♥ for king-high but Baeke had a pair of eights with his Q♣ 8♥ . –MC

5.35pm: Back-to-back Baekke?
It’s that old chestnut again – will we get a double EPT winner? Well, the way Allan Baekke is going we could have ourselves a back-to-back champion. The Dane played great poker to win EPT Snowfest just a few weeks ago to lift the trophy, and today he is on top of a pile of 316 remaining players with 430,000 chips.

Many of those seem to have shifted across from Team PokerStars Pro ElkY, who has slipped down to 150,000. — SY

5.30pm: One up, one down, one gone
A big hand just sent another player to the rail. Luca Ascani opened for 6,200 from under-the-gun. The action was then folded to Tim Poelman in the cut off who raised to 16,200. Next to him was Dieter Albrecht who moved all-in on the button. Albrecht didn’t have much, just 12,100 leaving Ascani to call the Poelman raise. He did, for a flop of 7â™  9♥ 4♣ .

Ascari bet 20,000, about what Poelman had left, but not quite. Poelman shoved in for 600 more which Ascari called, forcing a three way showdown.

Ascari: 8♠ 8♦
Poelman: A♣ A♠
Albrecht: K♣ 10♣

Poelman was ahead and Albrecht looked to be on his way. The turn came J♥ and the river 9♦ . Albrecht was gone. Ascari slipped back to 290,000 while Poelman moved up to 105,000. – SB.

5.20pm: New leader
“I have something close to 400,000,” said the Finnish player Otto Sandstrom. That must put him in the lead. — HS

5.15pm: Bianchi busts Lerner
Derek Lerner is out. He was a spectator as Fabio Bianchi eliminated Johan Berg with A♣ 10♦ against J♥ J♠ , all in pre-flop with four clubs on the board. But on the very next hand, it was Lerner sent packing by Bianchi, but this time it was the Italian with the jacks.

Bianchi raised to 6,000 from late position and Lerner moved all in from the button. The player in the small blind took a long, long time to fold but eventually let it go. That teed up Bianchi for a similar long dwell.

But he emerged with the call and showed J♥ J♦ . Lerner was in trouble with 7♣ 7♥ . The board ran dry and Lerner’s last 50,000 made their way to Bianchi. The Gazzetta dello Sport journalist isn’t doing too bad on the felt, rather than watching. — HS

5pm: Revised plans
Given the frenetic rate of eliminations today – we started with 620 players but enter the third level with 340 – tournament officials have decided that we’ll play to a final table this evening and take the rest of the week off.

OK, so that’s not what tournament officials have decided but the massacre of players in San Remo has been staggering and we probably could do precisely that. The actual plan remains to play either six levels or to the money bubble, which will arrive when 184 players remain. It’s touch and go which one will come first.

We’re going to need some soothing. Luckily Neil Stoddart took a trip around the town and returned with these calming photographs. (Unless you’re a ham.)
