EPT12 Barcelona: Thumy, Lucha, Primerano, Aloev latest side event champs

August 29, 2015

Yesterday was another busy one as these final days of the EPT Barcelona festival winds down, with many events in action and several reaching completion as players collect the last of the silver spades.

The final day of the multi-flight €1,000 NL (Event #48) finished up yesterday with France’s Clement Thumy topping a field of 575 to win €113,993 after a heads-up deal with Bulgaria’s Yaron Zeen Malki. Thumy made the final table of the Eureka Vienna High Roller last year.

Seamus Cahill (fourth), and Martin Kroeger (eighth) were part of that final table, with David Vamplew finishing 16th. Mike Adamo, Marton Czuczor, EPT Warsaw winner Joao Barbosa, Lasse Frost, and Paul Berende also cashed.

The €1,500 eight-handed pot-limit Omaha (Event #56) drew 135 runners for a €196,425 prize pool with €49,420 due the winner. They played down to 22 players last night, just five spots shy of the money, and they’ve already burst the bubble today as play has resumed.

Two Ukrainians sat atop the overnight chip counts in that one — Oleksandr Gnatenko (fresh off cashing in the EPT Main Event) and Rulas Nazarenko — while Team PokerStars Pro Online member Naoya Kihara returned fifth chips, with Joao Barbosa and Barny Boatman also surviving to today.

Yesterday there were two starting flights of the €500 NL Hold’em (Event #57) played, with a third going off this afternoon and the combined survivors from each flight getting together tonight to play it out.

Total number of entrants between the two flights yesterday was up to 465 entrants, and with more today there will be a nice prize pool and first prize in that one. Mikael Andersson and Johannes Johansson were at the top of the counts at the end of Flight 1A, while Yew Fatt Kan and Sven Peter Andersson (who just cashed in the EPT Main Event) were listed as leaders for 1B.

Meanwhile three other events finished out late last night, with three more trophies won.

In the €500 H.O.R.S.E. (Event #59), Sven Michael Lucha of Germany came out on top of a field of 79 players to win the trophy and a €10,540 prize.

Matthew Grapenthien, who has final tabled two razz events here and won the €500 seven-card stud hi/lo, finished third in that one, while LAPT8 Panama champion Shakeem Kazemipur took eighth.

Over in the €1,000 + €1,000 + €150 Turbo Bounty (Event #60), two Italians made it to heads-up out of a field of 296 at which point a deal was struck, with Daniele Primerano then winning the trophy over his fellow countryman Walter Treccarichi. Primerano took away €44,870 according to the terms of the deal while Treccarichi made €48,000, plus whatever each earned from bounties along the way.

And in the “Deuces Wild” (Event #61) that cost €100 to play and offered unlimited €50 rebuys, Asker Aloev won the trophy, topping a field of 225 (with 218 rebuys) to win €6,850.

It’s another full schedule of side event action today, with the first of a two-day €2K deepstack NL (Event #65) highlighting the schedule. Stick close for more reports on all of the side events in between checking in on the Main Event and High Roller coverage.
