EPT12 Barcelona: Win the button, win a trophy for Karam Alfonse

August 28, 2015

In addition to another super satellite to today’s €10K High Roller, there are six different new events in action alongside the ones from yesterday also playing out.

At 12 noon today two new events got going. The €1,500 PLO 8-handed (Event #56) drew 135 entrants, which adds up to a €196,425 prize pool to be divided among the top 17 finishers with €49,420 going to the winner.

Team PokerStars Pro Online member Naoya Kihara, Michel Abecassis, Barny Boatman, Ami Barer, Kimmo Kurko, Martins Adeniya, and Joao Barbosa were spotted among those seated during the early going.

There were nearly 120 seated in the first flight of the €500 NL (Event #57) today, with the second and final flight kicking off about an hour from now to start off the evening activities.

Meanwhile the €500 H.O.R.S.E. (Event #59) has a healthy field of 79 taking part, with the top 11 making the money to split a €38,315 prize pool and €10,540 up top.

Matthew Grapenthien, who cashed two razz events here and just won the €500 seven-card stud hi/lo, is among the field in that one, as is mixed game master Adam Owen with whom we spoke earlier this week.

One of the continued events has already wrapped up which means we have a new silver spade winner to pass along.

From a field of 514 just 14 were left to start today in the €200 NL Turbo “Win the Button” (Event #53), and after an afternoon’s worth of fighting over pots (and thus the button) it was the 27-year-old Karam Alfonse of Lebanon coming away with the chips and title.

Alfonse earns €19,245 for the win, with his fellow countryman Ara Melkistian taking second in the event for €12,125. EPT6 Kyiv Main Event champion Maxim Lykov finished ninth.

There’s plenty more happening tonight alongside the finish of Day 4 of the Main Event and this first day of the €10K High Roller, including a €2K NL Turbo Bounty (Event #60) and the €100 Turbo NL “Deuces Wild” (Event #61) with unlimited rebuys which should provide some fun.

More on the sides in a while. Keep following the EPT Main Event page and the High Roller page for live updates, chip counts, features, and more.
