Marcin Horecki: Multi-tabling final tables

Marcin Horecki loves a side event, and he particularly loves any in which he gets more than two cards or needs to learn a new quirk before play gets under way. It’s why yesterday he signed up for the €500 Deuce to Seven Single Draw tournament (you get five cards!) and the Deuces Wild Turbo “Quack Quack Half a Rack” (what on earth is that?), even though they were running at the same time.

As the Team PokerStars Pro says, however, he was rather efficient in both tournaments, making the final in each. He picked up a combined haul of €2,730 for his multi-tabling efforts, while Tony Birger Kennheden won the single-draw and Roland Loos the deuces wild.

(In case you’re wondering, the “Quack Quack Half a Rack” element offers an immediate €50 prize to anybody being dealt pocket deuces during the tournament. Of course it does.)

In other side event news, Georgios Zisimopoulos beat Hady El Asmar heads-up in last night’s €5,000 NL Hyper Turbo event, a tournament that has rapidly become one of the most popular at these festivals.

With a €5,000 buy in and an 11pm start, it’s the kind of event that appeals to a very specific, elite end of the festival-attending public, the kind that may of may not have taken some refreshment before its 11pm start time.

Zisimopoulos, who won the IPT Malta event a couple of months ago, picked up €75,000 for beating a field of 54 that included Jason Mercier, Liv Boeree and Johnny Lodden. Mike McDonald also played and cashed in seventh, with Nicolas Chouity (sixth), Walid Bou Habib (third) and Hady El Asmar (second) comprising a Lebanon-heavy final.

Cristian Bala already has a last name that will appeal to some of the poker-playing fraternity, and he has also now added an EPT side event trophy to his bling. He won the €3,000 Win the Button tournament, beating 167 players to the title and €8,940.

Jeff Duvall, a well-known face in London card-rooms for the past 20 years at least, got back to winning ways in the €5,000 Omaha 8 tournament last night. Duvall’s first recorded tournament win came in 1998, and he’d been playing a good few years prior to that as well.

His victory last night, beating a field of 24, earned him €43,070.
