This wouldn’t be an EPT/Eureka festival without a whole host of side events going on, and in the true spirit of these things, we’ve kicked off today with a ton of them.

The pick of the crop is the €5,000 8-Game event, which attracted some of the top stars. I had earlier wondered why Dan Cates had been spotted just outside the security checkpoint, being asked to empty his pockets as if boarding a plane. (This is the procedure for everyone.) I foolishly pondered if Jungleman fancied a go at a €1,000 five-day no limit hold’em tournament. It would have been a shock if he had.

But no, Cates was here to play the 8 Game and, at time of writing, is heads up with Vladimir Troyanovskiy for the title.

The winner will get €26,675 with the runner up in line for €16,005. Tobias Hausen has already picked up €10,670 for third. Dzmitry Urbanovich and Stephen Chidwick were also involved in this 11-strong field.

Event #9 is already done and dusted. That was a €1,000 no limit hold ’em turbo, which attracted 60 runners. The very specific joy of a turbo event is that it doesn’t take long to get done and Thom Crombach, of The Netherlands, is now €17,460 richer.

Today’s other events continue too, with the Prague Poker Cup playing its first and second flights and a €500 PLO attracting a healthy fields. There’s also a €2,000 8 Handed + 6 Handed tournament that got under way at 10pm and a €500 Hyper Turbo at 11pm.

We’ll have results from them all on the results page tomorrow.
