The only downside of a poker festival that boasts a record-breaking Eureka main event, a ridiculous Eureka High Roller, a massive Super High Roller and a typically (huge) sized EPT main event is that the other side events gets forgotten somewhat. Yeah, there are other events too. This festival is enormous.
Anyway, the bare bones of what is going on in those tournaments can be found on the side-events results page, where we’re just about keeping up with the winners and the in-the-money finishers, plus their photos.
But we will try today to get to grips with all the other stories, including a maiden tournament victory for Lilia Novikova, of Team PokerStars Online, who took down the €1,000 Deep Stack tournament last night and picked up €49,440.
Novikova, from Moscow, Russia, prevailed from a field of 241 and beat Wing Sang Lee heads up to the title. Lee was the bubble boy in the Eureka main event, but has hopped straight back in the saddle and won €33,290 for his second place, which will likely sweeten his week somewhat.
One hopes that this will be the first of many for Novikova, who is best known as a hyper-turbo six-max player on PokerStars, but is breaking into the live arena. It must have been slow progress for her yesterday, given the breakneck pace of what she’s used to, but it was a fine victory in any circumstances.
