Wei Zhao: Three time champion at EPT Prague

There have been some miraculous performances in the past couple of seasons on the EPT, including, of course, that tremendous breakout display by Dzmitry Urbanovich in Malta at the end of last season. Urbanovich, in case you need reminding, won four events at a single festival and went from nobody to household name in the blink of an eye.

Wei Zhao has a little way to go until he matches Urbanovich’s achievement, but the player from China has had a festival to remember here in Prague this week.

On Saturday, he won a €100 Full Tilt Flipout tournament, for €1,150, and on Sunday he won the inaugural €500 “Instant Win” event, for another €6,840. That same night, he made the final table of the €5,000 Hyper Turbo, picking up €28,810 for fourth, and was back into the top four on Monday, when he picked up another €16,520 in the €1,000+€1,000 Turbo Bounty.

This afternoon in Prague, Zhao was back to winning ways in the Irish Hold’em event, winning €1,380 and yet another trophy. That’s five final tables, including three outright victories, in a matter of four days. That’s good going.

Checking through the starting lists of all the tournaments from the past week, it shows that Zhao has entered 21 events here this week, which goes some way to accounting for his fine record. There won’t be all that many players who have sat down in as many tournaments.

But his total outlay still falls short of his €54,430 winnings, so this has been a very good week–and there’s still tomorrow too.

In other side event news:

– Marcin Horecki is in the final 13 of the Prague Open, guaranteed €1,040 at least. There’s €15,200 available for the winner of a tournament that attracted 404 runners.

– They are on the bubble of the €1,000 Deepstack event with €67,960 up top. One more player will need to go out in 21st to leave 20 in the money. Ole Schemion, Adrian Mateos, Jan Bendik, Mike McDonald and Peter Eichardt are all still with chips.

– The Win The Button tournament attracted 108 players, with €31,895 available to the winner. Twenty places will be paid.

We’re keeping up with the side events action on the side events page and the results are on the side events results page.

If the Main Event is your thing, you can find that on the Main Event page or on EPT Live.

There’s also the High Roller. That’s on the High Roller page.
