There’s a poker rule that doesn’t appear in every book, but it’s one you should heed at every opportunity:
Don’t mess with Mercier on his home turf.
That’s Jason Mericer, Team PokerStars Pro and resident of the USA’s Sunshine State (also known as Florida) who just last night banked more than $500,000 in the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open $25,000 High Roller.
What’s more, Mercier’s family got to see him take down the trophy after a heads-up deal.
As he told the SHRPO live reporting team, “As many tournament as I’ve won, I’ve never actually had my family here. I knew this tournament series was a pretty decent opportunity to make a final table and have them come watch. Any time there’s a series here I’m really trying so that they can come. I was just happy to still be in. My dad got here for the start, took off some work, and it was cool to have them both of my parents here and my sister here to watch me win.”
Some day people will learn to not to play Mercier on his turf. For Mercier’s sake, hopefully that day doesn’t come any time soon.
Congrats, Jason, on yet another win.
