The PokerStars LIVE Macau poker room has had record turnouts for every special event this year and unsurprisingly that’s meant a fresh faced winner in each main event.

Last week’s ACOP Platinum Series IV was about the old guard as Asian poker veterans Ken Wong and Daren Yoon each walked away with a trophy.

Hong Kong’s ‘Kenny’ Wong beat the 274-player field in the Main Event to claim his first victory in the Asia-Pacific. While the HK$ 284,100 he won this past weekend pales to the AUD $1 million he received for his runner-up finish in the 2012 Aussie Millions, the poker pro was simultaneously relieved and shocked to finally finish on top after numerous Top 3 finishes.

“I don’t think it’s hit me. I’ll probably realize I won tomorrow.” said Wong after his victory.

Wong enters the Asia Player of the Year rankings at No. 17 after his win.

Meanwhile, Daren Yoon claimed his second PokerStars Omaha title after winning the HK $1,000 Deepstack PLO event on Thursday. Yoon, also known as “Mr. Malaysia” according to APPT President Danny McDonagh, defeated 122 runners and won HK $27,900.

The weekend’s other champions were Shingo Cho and Ming Yi who won the Deepstack NLH and KO Bounty events respectively. In total, the four Official Asia Player of the Year events on hand drew 743 players and awarded HK $1,638,162.
