LAPT Uruguay Grand Final Day 4: Mubarak First Out

November 24, 2013

After a devastating tour through the blinds, including giving Carter Gill a walk in blind versus blind (when he held deuce-three offsuit to Gill’s ten-nine), Walid Mubarak moved all-in from the button for his last 235,000.

Carter Gill folded the small blind but Ivan Raich woke up with 9♦ 9♥ in the big blind and was obliged to call.

Mubarak had a good chance of survival with K♦ Q♠.

The dealer dropped the flop cards face up on top of one another. Once spread, they were 10♥ 10♦ 5♠.

“I folded jack-ten,” Gill informed everyone.

“Give it to me!” hushed Mubarak.

The pause between the flop and the turn on account of the cameras was long enough for multiple exhortations from the Peruano.

The turn was the 3♦, the river, the 10♣.

The audience clapped Mubarak’s efforts as his competitors shook his hand. He walks away today with $25,840 for eighth place.

Humble in defeat

It is now Perez on the short-stack with an anemic five-big blinds. He can’t wait much longer. Carter Gill, on the other hand, is rich beyond the dreams of avarice, he has surpassed five million chips.
