It’s hard not to enjoy life here at Viña del Mar.

The weather is beautiful and the hotel has a fantastic view of the beach. When you eat at the hotel’s seafood restaurant at around 7:30pm, you dine with a beach-side sunset.

The town is youthful too, several private universities are spread around the area. The nightly crowd ranges from the 20-30 range.

Yesterday, we got to see it first hand. PokerStars and the Enjoy Hotel & Casino hosted a party for the PokerStars players at OVO, the casino’s nightclub.

When we left our blogging station to check it out at around midnight, there seemed to be no one there. But when 1am rolled around, the crowd poured in.

Us media people were given access to free drinks, a blessing and a curse when the night starts at 1am and the next day starts in less than 12 hours.

We drank responsibly but ate irresponsibly.

After the club we went to go find a bite to eat and solved the mystery of the obese street dogs.

They eat a lot of McDonalds.

McDonalds was the only “restaurant” open at the wee hours of the morning and the line was out the door.

The dogs took advantage of this and acted their cutest for the crowd.

The drunks — being drunk — could not resist the urge to pet and feed the stray canines.

Neither could we.

The dogs feasted on low-grade meat and salty french fries all night.

But now we have a new mystery, the mystery of the new LAPT champion. He’s somewhere in this room, but we don’t know who he is.

Or maybe we do.

It’s a classic locked-room mystery.

We’ll narrow the suspects down today in Day 2.

Leading the final 188 today is João Lopes, a Brazilian with 207,600 chips. He’s almost an average stack ahead of second place, Alejandro Vargas, a Chilean with 162,600.

Around 190 players are returning today for a piece of the $651,840 up for grabs. First place will take home $129,470.

We’re expected to hit the money today, so stay tuned and follow our live updates right here.

Here’s a quick recap of Day 1B too, just incase you need a refresher:
