Home / Uncategorized / LAPT6 Chile: Tavitian shows Martins to the rail

At APPT7 Seoul last night, heads-up went for more than three hours before Aaron Lim accumulated all of the chips. It was a momentous struggle back and forth between Lim and Chane Kampanatsanyakorn. We thought we might be headed for a similarly long heads-up battle between Leonardo Martins and Pablo Tavitian.

Instead we got a snappy 10-minute affair.

On the first hand of heads-up play that saw significant action, Tavitian limped in from the button. Martins checked to a 2♣ 7â™  10♥ flop. He checked a second time. Tavitian then shoved all in. Martins, who had top pair with 10♣ 5♣ , opted to make his stand and try to double up. He called. Tavitian turned up Qâ™  10♣ , decidedly bad news for Martins’ hope of doubling.

Martins in trouble

The turn was an ace, the ace of spades. The river was another ace, the ace of diamonds. That was all she wrote. Each player had aces and tens, but Tavitian’s kicker played to claim the pot and the tournament.

Martins took a very pragmatic view of his elimination.

“At the start of the day I was the short stack,” he said. “I had nine blinds. Even though I didn’t win I’m happy with this result.”

This result, for those who like to keep track of things, is $117,200. Not bad at all.
