Home / Uncategorized / LAPT7 Brazil: Final five swimming in shallow waters

We’ve just returned from the dinner break (soup of the day was “Cream of Peru,” not sure what’s in it but tasty enough) and our five remaining players are back in action. With the blinds up to 150,000/300,000 with a 40,000 ante, all of them have fewer than 30 big blinds to work with. Angel Guillen was down to only ten big blinds when cards went back in the air, a rogue spectator taunting him with a few verses of the Mexican folk song “La Cucaracha.”

This “cucaracha”, however, is no longer at the bottom of the pack. When Victor Sbrissa opened from the cutoff for 600,000, Guillen shipped in his remaining 3,065,000 from the big blind and Sbrissa called. Guillen had the Brazilian dominated with K♣ J♦ vs. K♥ 9♦ and survived the 10♦ 7♣ 7â™  7♥ 6♥ board to double his stack to 6.48 million.

Oops!

The pay jumps are definitely on these players’ minds at this juncture. While fifth place pays R$190,000 (about $83,500 USD), first pays R$800,000 (just short of $352,000 USD). Here’s the complete breakdown:

1. R$ 800,000
2. R$ 470,000
3. R$ 330,000
4. R$ 250,000
5. R$ 190,000

For now, this fab five is still stealing, shoving, and re-shoving their way around the table. And the rail? They haven’t lost an ounce of energy. I think we need an ambulance on standby for that guy on the far right.
