Home / News / MicroMillions Day 1: Huge Sunday Storm Special Edition provides thunderous start

MicroMillions 17 has begun. And after just one day’s worth of poker we’ve already seen numerous examples of players making a lot from a little.

All nine of the events taking place on Sunday saw huge turnouts and total prize pools going well over their scheduled guarantees.

‘ollinman’ triumphs in huge Sunday Storm Special Edition

Buy-ins ranged from $1.10 to $5.50 yesterday, and it was one of the “big” buy-in events — Event No. 3 ($5.50 NLHE Progressive KO Sunday Storm Special Edition) — that drew the largest field and created the biggest prize pool.

With a $250,000 guarantee, the tournament had an incredible 64,999 total entries with 44,499 unique players, thereby creating a massive $318,495.10 prize pool.

After 11-and-a-half hours of poker it was “ollinman” of Brazil claiming the lion’s share of the prize pool and the most bounties to earn a cool $15,825.55 altogether. That’s a nice return on what was an $11 investment for ollinman who re-entered once.

A wide world of winners

Another Brazilian, “Matheuz7,” won Event No. 5, turning a $3.30 buy-in into $3,708.22 following a three-handed deal.

Two players from the United Kingdom took titles as well yesterday, with “LuckStarr7” needing just over three hours to take down Event No. 6 ($1.10 6-Max, Hyper-Turbo, Progressive KO) and “couldbedrunk” finishing first in Event No. 7 ($5.50 6+ Hold’em, 6-Max, Turbo) after a heads-up deal.

Day 1 winners came from Argentina, Bermuda, Canada, Chile, and Norway as well.

Raise a glass to Event No. 7 winner ‘couldbedrunk’

Talking with “couldbedrunk” about his Event No. 7 victory afterwards, he told us that after 10-15 years of playing online he’s had a few five-figure wins before, although he was still mighty pleased to be able to chop and win Event No. 7.

“I would say the most pivotal moment came when there were around 100 left and I was seated with four Canadians and the eventual runner-up,” he recalled.

He remembered his opponents’ nationality, because besides all being from Canada they also shared one other characteristic.

“They just would not fold hands to me,” said “couldbedrunk.”

Finally he tried “some speech play in the chat” with them, and that seemed to turn the tide. “I was able to accumulate an insane amount of chips from these stubborn players,” he said.

That eventual runner-up finisher — “AA papi” — was a worthy foe as well. “He played great throughout the game as I was seated with him from some time out, so was happy to chop with him,” said “couldbedrunk.”

Cheers to the champ!
