10:50pm: Day 1b done with Min looking the leader

Day 1b of the MPC22 Red Dragon Main Event is done!

After 11 levels of play it looks like just under 50 players have secured a Day 2 berth. These players will now have a couple of days off before returning on Wednesday to continue their Red Dragon journey.

It looks like Yi Min may be the end-of-day 1b chip leader, but we will have confirmation of that, along with all end-of-day chip counts and a full recap of the day’s action posted on the PokerStarsBlog as soon as possible!

Until then, put 3:00pm local time tomorrow in your diary as that’s when we will be back at PokerStars LIVE Macau to provide live reporting of the third Day 1 flight.

See you then!

10:45pm: Final four hands

The tournament clock has been paused and the players have told there will be four more hands at each table before Day 1b of the MPC22 Red Dragon is all over.

10:40pm: Min takes small hit

We have been watching chip leader Yi Min during this last level of play and while his stack his still the largest, he has taken a few hits to his stack and now has just 120,000.

Min was very active for a few orbits, opening a lot of hands. He was also three-bet preflop quite a few times and opted to get out of the way during these hands. One of the hands saw him open to 3,500 from middle position, at which point the players on the button three-bet to 8,000. On this occasion Min made the call and the dealer turned over a 9♠ 9♣ 2♦ flop. Min thought for a while here, then checked. His opponent bet 7,500 and Min opted to let his cards go.

10:30pm: Min with the chips

Yi Min is looking like the chip leader at the moment with his stack of 150,000 towering over his nearest competitor Darian Tan with around 100,000. There is just a short while remaining in the final level of the night, so lets see if Min holds onto that lead.

10:20pm: One ends, another begins

Macau never sleeps.

And apparently that also applies to poker players.

Despite the 10:00pm start time, the HK$3,000 Turbo side event here at MPC22 has seen dozens of players hit the tables. As we speak there is a giant line of hopefuls registering at the tournament booth.

The tournament sees players kick off with a 10,000 start bank and levels last 15 minute each. The event will certainly move along at a rapid pace, but it’s still likely to go until the early hours of tomorrow morning.

It will be interesting to see if any of the players from the Red Dragon Main Event opt to jump in and try their luck in the turbo once Day 1b comes to an end in around half an hours time.

10:10pm: Level 11 begins, blinds 800/1,600 (200)

This the final level of the night! Approximately 52 players remain.

10:00pm: Olivia building a stack

Olivia Liu is one of three ladies left in the tournament late on Day 1b.

Liu has managed to build a bit of a stack too.

We recently watched Liu lead out for 12,000 against one opponent on the river of a 9♠ 2♥ 6♣ 9♥ K♥ board. There was already around

9:45pm: Lucky double for Mishra

Don Mishra has found a very lucky double up during these late stages of the day.

Mishra was all in preflop for 10,100 holding K♣ 10♣ and had to come up against A♥ A♠ .

Mishra was out of his seat and ready to leave the tournament as the dealer spread out a 10♠ 2♦ 7♣ flop. The 5♦ turn was of no help and so Mishra went to leave his seat.
Then a Kâ™  hit the river and Mishra sat back down!

9:30pm: Final two levels begin

The players are back from their break and the cards are in the air for the final two levels of the night. Blinds are now 600/1,200 with a 200 ante.

9:20pm: Final break of Day 1b

Approximately 61 players have been sent on their final 10-minute break of the day. When they return there will be two more levels before Day 1b of the MPC22 Red Dragon is all over.

9:15pm: Zeng gone

There have been lots of eliminations during these late stages of the day.

One of the latest players to hit the rail was Zhe Zeng. It was all in preflop with Q-T for Zeng and unfortunately that hand had to come up against pocket kings. The board ran out blanks and it was all over for Zeng.

There are just over 60 players remaining as we head towards the final level of the day.

9:05pm: Santos shoves on Feng

We arrived at the table to find Hsien Ching Feng and Joseba Santos involved in a hand on the turn of a 2♠ J♥ 2♥ 3♠ board. There was already a big pot brewing when Ching Feng led for 4,900. After a few moments, Santos moved all in for 17,700. Ching Feng tanked and eventually opted to fold.

8:50pm: Big stacks in the house

Here is a look at the approximate chips of some of the larger stacks during the third last level of Day 1b of the MPC22 Red Dragon Main Event.

Chen Chin Wu – 105,000
Yuanye Chen – 85,000
Yifan Zhang – 80,000

8:40pm: Level 9 begins, blinds 500/1,000 (100)

8:25pm: Razavi on the rail

British pro Sam Razavi was in today’s field and looking to add more results to his resume which includes an APPT Melbourne title. However, we recently spotted Razavi on the rail, so clearly he has had no luck here in the MPC22 Red Dragon Main Event.

8:15pm: Huang sent home

Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang was hoping to do what fellow pro Aditya Agarwal couldn’t do yesterday and make it through Day 1.

Unfortunately Huang has now joined Agarwal on the rail.

Huang’s final hand saw him open to 1,600 from late position before the player on his direct left three-bet to 4,000. Back on Huang and he moved all in for over 10,000. A call was made and Huang was at risk with A♣ 6♥ against K♥ K♦ .

The K♠ 8♠ J♥ Q♥ 4♥ board was no good to Huang and so he was on the rail.

8:00pm: Level 8 begins, blinds 400/800 (100)

7:50pm: Byebye Bobo

Bobo Chen has just hit the rail, courtesy of Mingwei Li.

Chen was short stacked and all in preflop holding K♣ 5♥ against Li’s A♥ Kâ™  .

Chen needed help, but it wouldn’t come on a A♣ 3♣ 10♣ 3♥ 4♦ board.

7:35pm: Yuanye Chen nearing six figures

Yuanye Chen’s stack is nearing six figures.

The most recent pot to go to Chen saw him rumble with Darian Tan on a A♥ 7♣ 2♥ 6♣ 3♠ board. We picked up the action on the turn, with Tan leading for 2,500 and Chen making the call.

On the river, Tan led for 5,800 and Chen made the call.

Showdown would see Chen’s Aâ™  8♥ trump Tan’s Q♦ Jâ™  .

With that hand, Chen finds himslef with around 95,000 in chips.

7:25pm: Day 1b number confirmed

All the late entrants have been counted and the numbers are in for Day 1b of the MPC22 Red Dragon. There were 162 total entrants today, which brings the running total to 272 so far. There is no doubt tomorrow’s Day 1c and the fourth and final Day 1 flight will be massive.

7:20pm: Back with rego closed

The players are back from their break and that means registration is closed.

It looks like 160 entrants today, but we will confirm that number ASAP.

In the meantime, the 105 remaining players are now playing Level 7 with blinds at 300/600 and a 75 ante.

7:10pm: Break number two

The players have been sent on their second 10-minute break of the day!

Registration will close at the end of this break.

7:05pm: Chen sends Son home

Yuanye Chen recently dealt the fatal blow to Changwook Son.

We picked up the action on the turn of a 3♣ 7♥ 5♥ A♦ board with Son having shoved all in with J♥ 9♥ for the flush draw and Chen having A♠ 7♠ for two pair.

Son didn’t find the heart he needed and so he was eliminated!

6:50pm: Lots of chips for Li

Yuan Li has just eliminated Sam Wu to see his stack move to 67,000.

Wu was short stacked and all in preflop holding Jâ™  6♦ against Li’s Kâ™  J♦ .

The board ran out 8♣ 8♠ 5♣ 2♥ 7♥ and it was all over for one player as another moves into an early chip lead.

6:40pm: Two prominent players gone

Two of the more prominent players in today’s field – Iori Yogo and Buyanjargal Bold – have been spotted on the rail. Yogo, the 2013 ANZ Player of the Year, and Bold, the MPC20 red Dragon champion, will now have some time to play in the many side events on offer here at MPC22. Familiarise yourself with those events by clicking here.

6:30pm: Level 6 begins, blinds 200/400 (50)

6:20pm: Li Han chomps up chips

Li Han Chen has rumbled in a pot with Pete Chen.

This time we arrived at the action with a 6♦ 5♠ A♠ flop on the felt.

Li Han, Chen and one other player each committed 2,100 here.

On the 8♥ turn there were three checks and with that, the dealer completed the board with a 4♥ .

This time it was checked to Li Han who bet 6,500. Pete was the lone caller and he would have to muck when Li Han showed 7♠ 7♥ for a straight.

Despite losing this hand, Pete is still on around 20,000 in chips.

Li Han, meanwhile, is one of the leaders with 50,000.

6:00pm: Big stacks

Here is a look at the approximate counts of some of the larger chip stacks during the fifth level of Day 1b of the MPC22 Red Dragon Main Event.

Yuan Li – 50,000
Song Wang – 40,000
Gary Johnson – 38,000
Mingwei Li – 37,000
Jaswinder Suri – 32,000
Kang Gao – 31,000
Don Mishra – 30,000

The average stack is currently just under 18,000.

5:50pm: Level 5 begins, blinds 150/300 (50)

5:45pm: Changwook triple

Changwook Son has just moved his stack up around 40,000 after tripling up in a big all-in preflop situation against two players. Son had A♠ A♦ all-in against Q♣ Q♠ and A♥ Q♥ and ultimately hit a set on a 4♦ 8♣ A♣ 4♥ 3♠ board to scoop the massive pot.

5:35pm: Battle of the Chen

Yuanye Chen and reigning Asia Player of the Year Pete Chen have just battled it out to the turn of a J♣ A♦ 10♣ 4♥ board. We saw the two players commit 3,200 each on the flop and then on the turn, Yuanye led out for 5,500. This sent Pete deep into the tank. Eventually he opted to fold and the pot went to Yuanye.

5:25pm: Big roller coaster pot for Gary Johnson

Canadian Gary Johnson’s stack is up over 30,000 after winning a dramatic pot.

He held pocket aces and was all in against pocket nines.

It was looking like it would be all over for Johnson when his opponent flopped a set of nines on a paired flop, but then Johnson found an ace on the river to make the bigger full house and scoop the chips.

5:10pm: Back for level 4

The players are back from their break and ready to play level 4, which means a 25 ante has kicked in. We also remind everyone that registration is open until the next break.

5:00pm: First break of Day 1b

Just over 150 players have been sent on their first 10-minute break of the day.
Registration is still open for another three levels!

4:50pm: Jiang moving up

Sihai Jiang has moved his stack towards 25,000 as we near the end of the third level of Day 1b of the MPC22 Red Dragon Main Event.

There was 9,000 in the pot when we arrived on the river of a 4♣ 8♣ A♣ Aâ™  3â™  board and it was at this point that Jiang led out for 2,900. Chongxian Yang was Jiang’s lone opponent and he tanked and eventually folded to send the pot to Jiang.

4:40pm: Short stack triple for Chunyu

Chunyu Yang was down to just 200 in chips when he moved all in from the cut off. Jiageng Song raised to 1,500 on the button, while the player in the big blin squeezed him out with a raised to 3,700.

It was looking like it was about to be all over for Yang as his K♥ J♠ was up against Q♥ Q♠ .

The J♣ 6♠ 5♣ flop gave Yang a piece and while the A♥ turn was of no help, the J♦ river meant he made trip jacks to find the triple up.

There’s still a lot of work to be down, but Yang’s stack is heading back in the right direction.

4:30pm: Shibin Gets a Fold

Shibin Zhang didn’t have a great start to his Day 1b of the MPC 22 Red Dragon, quickly finding himself under half the starting stack. Then he managed to pick up plenty of chips when he shoved all in for around 8,000 against one opponent on the river of a Qâ™  9♦ 7♣ Aâ™  10♣ board. There was already a substantial amount of chips in the middle at this point. Eventually Zhang got a fold, scooping the pot to move back to the starting stack.

4:20pm: Level 3 begins, blinds 100/200

Registration is still open! Come on down and play!

4:10pm: Loo in the house

Malaysia’s first WSOP bracelet winner, Jay Loo, has just been spotted in the field. We saw Loo scoop up some quick chips when he raised it up to 2,650 after Fei Song had led for 850 on a J♥ 5â™  8♥ . Song eventually fodled and Loo took the pot.

4:00pm: Nuts for Wu

We recently watched a lengthy hand take place over on Table 18.

Picking up the action on a 3♥ 10â™  5â™  flop, Ben Haim Vine, from the small blind position checked, Wen Tao Wu on his direct left also checked before Choong Kow Kim bet 750. Kenneth Khoo, on Kim’s direct left made the call, and so too did Vine and Wu.

On the 9♠ turn, Vine checked and Wu bet again, this time 1,500. Kim opted to fold, while Khoo made the call to see the dealer flip over a Q♥ river.

Vine checked for the third time and Wu bet a large 6,000. Khoo quickly got out of the way before Vine went deep into the tank. After a few minutes, the clock was called and Vine had a minute to act. Eventually he opted to fold.

As he raked in the pot, Wu tabled Aâ™  Qâ™  for the nut flush.

3:45pm: Another champ spotted

Buyanjargal Bold isn’t the only former Red Dagon champ out there today as we have spotted Victor Chen. It was back in 2009 that Chen won the Red Dragon, defeating a field of just 119. These days, Chen will have to defeat almost ten times as many players to win a Red Dragon.

3:40pm: Level 2 begins, blinds 50/100

3:35pm: Team Pro Huang Late in First Level

Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang has taken his seat with just a few minutes remaining in the first level of Day 1b of the Red Dragon Main Event. Huang is lone Team Pro currently in today’s field and he will be hoping to fare better than fellow pro Aditya Agarwal who was eliminated from the action on Day 1a.

3:30pm: Early Shoving

It’s not too often you see a player shoving all in during the first level of play and certainly not when blinds start at just 25/50 and players start with 300 big blinds. However, that’s what we just saw Neo Chen do.

We saw Chen shoving on the river of a 4♥ J♣ 10♦ 6♥ 3♦ board with Stephen Lai his opponent. There was already over 10,000 in the pot and Chen had around 9,000 behind. Lai tanked, eventually folded, and the pot went to Lai who looks like one of the early chip leaders.

3:20pm: Already up on Day 1a

The tournament clock tells us that 130 players have entered on Day 1b of the MPC22 Red Dragon so far. There are quite a few players still in the registration line and with the ability to enter up to four hours into play, expect that number to grow even further.

3:15pm: Some of those spotted so far

The PokerStars LIVE Macau poker room is already looking more packed for Day 1b than it was yesterday. There are plenty of players we recognise out there including Singapore’s Don Mishra, Canadian Christian Haggart, Korean video gaming superstar Lim Yo Hwan (A.K.A ‘BoxeR’), current Asia Player of the Year Pete Chen, 2013 ANZ Player of the Year Iori Yogo, Malaysian pro Darian Tan and none other than MPC20 Red Dragon champion Buyanjargal Bold.

When Bold won this event in January of last year he defeated a field of 995 players. Can he do it again? Well, his journey has to start somewhere and it starts here on Day 1b.

3:05pm: Here’s the plan

Here are the important things you, and the players, need to know.

Players start with 15,000 in chips and blinds kick off at 25/50. Levels last 40 minutes each on the Day 1 flights before moving to 60 minute levels on Day 2 & 3 and 75 minutes at the final table.

There will be 11 levels played today and the eventual survivors will come back for Day 2 on Wednesday.

Late registration is open for the first four hours of play.

This is a HK$12,000 buy-in event and is a freezeout tournament.

Now it’s the time of the day that we go and see who is in the field!

3:00pm: Cards in Air on Day 1b

The players have taken their seats on Day 1b of MPC22 Red Dragon and the call has been made to shuffle up and deal!

Time for second Day 1 at MPC22: Red Dragon

There were 26 total survivors on the first Day 1 flight and it was Danny van Zjip who bagged the chip lead and now sets the pace for Day 1b with a stack of 137,500.
