The Macau Poker Cup has grown to a whole new level this season and you can feel the excitement in the air as the 25th installment is about to get underway (August 26 to September 11) at the ‘PokerStars LIVE Macau’ poker room.

Last February, the MPC poker festival hit new highs with 4,650 players and more than HK$37 million (USD $4.8m) in prize money across twenty Official Asia Player of the Year events. The legendary Red Dragon main event hit the 1k milestone with 1,075 players – making it the biggest freezeout in Asia-Pacific history.

PokerStars LIVE Macau has made further improvements and also offering more tournaments than ever. Here’s your preview of what’s in store as the MPC hits the quarter-Century mark.

The full MPC25 schedule and tournament structures can be found right found right here.

KICKOFF 500K GTD (Aug. 27-28)

Technically speaking, the HK$5,000 Kickoff event is the second tournament on the schedule but it will no doubt be the opening weekend’s largest event and is expected to easily crush the HK$500,000 prize pool guarantee.

MEGASTACK 500K GTD (Sept. 1-2)

The HK$5,000 Megastack is the natural starting point for players who can’t get away for the entire 17-day schedule. The tournament has averaged nearly 300 runners since it was introduced to the MPC schedule last season and that’s in no small part to the sexy 30,000 start bank.

BABY DRAGON 1M GTD (Sept. 2-3)

Perhaps the most significant change is the move of the HK$7,000 Baby Dragon event – going from opening weekend to two days before the Main Event.

The past two Baby Dragon events have averaged 350 players and HK$1.8 million. That’s certainly solid. But the schedule adjustment is widely expected to increase the field size in a big way.

$25,000 NLH (Sept. 3-4)

The 25k NLH event made a terrific debut last February with 126 players and could very well see a surge from the huge field expected from the Baby Dragon the day before.

RED DRAGON 6M GTD (Sept. 4-9)

Red Dragon. Often imitated, never duplicated.

There’s no doubt that this will be amongst the biggest events for APPT Season 10 as players from around the world pony up HK$12,000 for a chance at the game’s best looking trophy and a prize pool that should be closer to HK$10 million than the HK$6 million that’s guaranteed.

Malaysian slayer Ying Chua has confirmed that he’ll return to defend his title.

HIGH ROLLERS (Sept. 9-11)

During the previous MPC, the HK$80,000 High Roller made a monster leap to 114 entrants with a prize pool weighing in at HK$8.5 million. That’s an increase of more than 50% and there’s no telling how high it will go.

The appetite for high stakes poker in Macau is most definitely alive and well folks.

More? Of course more!

MPC25 will be introducing a HK$100,000 Single Day High Roller and is perfect for those who want to play big but don’t have time for multi-day tournaments.

Book your flights and pack your bags. MPC25 is the must-play event of the summer.
