The Macau Poker Cup series has reached new heights this season and all things indicate that MPC27 (August 25 – September 10) will be even bigger and better!

The previous MPC poker festival had 5,527 participants and nearly HK$60 million (~USD $7.7m) in prize money across 25 Official Asia Player of the Year events. The legendary Red Dragon Main Event had a massive 1,216 players – breaking its own record as the largest freezeout in Asia-Pacific history.

Here’s your preview of the highlights taking place at PokerStars LIVE Macau over the next three weeks.

The complete MPC27 schedule is available at www.PokerStarsLIVEMacau.com

HK$15,000 RED DRAGON – 10M GTD (Sept. 3-8)

The Red Dragon Main Event continues to be the most popular tournament in the Asia Pacific and those seeking overlay on the HK$10 million guarantee should look elsewhere.

The previous Red Dragon event, and its 1,216 runners, created a prize pool of nearly HK$16 million.

Alan Lau is widely expected to defend his title that earned him over HK$3.2 million last February. Lau is currently ranked No. 2 on the Asia Player of the Year leaderboard.

HK$2,000 KICKOFF – 300K GTD, Unlimited Re-Entries (Aug. 25-26)

It all begins this Friday with the Kickoff event which previously had 245 entrants and a HK$427,770 prize pool. This is the perfect starter tourney whether you’re a weekend warrior or sharpening your poker game for the full schedule grind.

HK$10,000 NLH – 800K GTD (Aug. 26-27)

If you’re planning to play just one event during the opening weekend then this is it. For those looking for lower cost options, there’s a HK$2,000 Mega Satellite (5 Seat Guarantee) earlier the same day at 2.30pm.

HK$5,000 MEGASTACK – 500K GTD (Aug. 31-Sep. 1)

The HK$5,000 Megastack — and its sexy 30,000 start bank — is the natural starting point for players who can’t get away for the entire 17-day schedule. The tournament regularly attracts 300+runners and has become the warm-up to the warm-up event.

HK$8,000 BABY DRAGON – 2M GTD (Sep. 1-2)

It’s fun to look back and read the things you’ve written before. One year ago I wrote that, “The past two Baby Dragon events have averaged 350 players and HK$1.8 million.

Do you know where this event is this year? 602 players and HK$4.2 million in prize money.

The unofficial warm-up event is one of the fastest growing MPC events along with the…

HK$100,000 SINGLE DAY HIGH ROLLER – Shot Clock, Single Re-Entry (Sept. 4)

The 100K SDHR launched into the MPC ecosystem last year with a modest 33 runners. On the very next outing, the SDHR field made a major leap to 81 entrants (HK$7.5+ million prize pool) and could very well crack the 100-player, 10M mark this time around.

HK$25,000 NLH – 3M GTD (Sept. 7-9)

You’re forgiven if you were one of those who thought that the buy-in change from 20K to 25K would reduce the field in this event. But like many other MPC tournaments, the 25K NLH just keeps on growing and growing.

Often considered as the MPC tourney with the best structure, this event produced a field of 283 players and more than HK$6.3 million in prize money earlier this year.

HK$80,000 HIGH ROLLER – Shot Clock, Unlimited Re-Entries (Sept. 8-10)

The last MPC High Roller set a personal record of 130 entries and a HK$9,682,400 prize pool.

Things will be a little different this time around. We’ve added a 30-second shot clock in addition to taking the training wheels off – the 80K HR will now allow unlimited re-entries vs. the one re-entry limit from yesteryears.
