Home / Uncategorized / P1M Guarantee: Rey Concepcion Goes the Distance and Wins!

Rey Concepcion, Champion of P1M GuaranteeAfter a long and grueling final table, the PokerStars Live Manila P1M Guarantee held at City of Dreams Manila, Philippines, ended with poker veteran Rey Concepcion outlasting the overwhelming youth at the table to claim the first place cash prize of PHP200,000 plus a seat to the APPT 9 Manila Main Event.

Revered as one of the most experienced and admirable poker players in his home country, Concepcion definitely did not disappoint. He took off running at the start of the final day with two significant double ups. His first was with K-Q winning a coin flip against Edgar Felix’s pocket tens, then two hands after, chipping up big when he railed Dilip Ajitkumar Menon with his pocket kings dominating Menon’s queens.

With a very healthy stack for the final table, Concepcion displayed old school poker prowess. He engaged in many pots, as if he were in a saloon with his buddies, raising whenever he wanted, no matter what position he was in. He also knew when to slow down and let others take control such as when Korean player Jutae Kim started running hot and eliminated three of his countrymen one after the other. Later, Concepcion railed one for his own, Filipino player Raphael Berroya Bulaong in 6th place, bringing his stack close to six-digits.

During five-handed, action slowed down significantly. With less chips than the rest, Nickolai Alexandrov seemed to be in the hot seat, proving tough for quite some time, but was eventually eliminated in 5th place. Then a deal was made between the four remaining players, each of them agreeing to receive an equal share of the remaining cash prize pool. That meant, they would then be playing for the coveted APPT 9 Manila Main Event seat and the tournament trophy. The question was, who wanted it more?

Concepcion? Angeles? Casey? Kim?

Angeles took the early lead by eliminating Gerald Casey in 4th place with his A-Q offsuit getting lucky against Casey’s A-K. Immediately after, Concepcion railed Kim in third place and entered the heads up round against Angeles with a 2-to-1 chip lead. In just two hands, Concepcion proceeded to scalp Angeles with his K♣ 10♣ against Angeles’ Q♦ 6♦ on a board that ran 7â™  9â™  7♦ 6♥ 10♥ .

Congratulations to Rey Concepcion for a very well-deserved win!
