Imagine this scene: 40-year-old Josh Prager at the Atlantis pool before a day that could mean big money. He’s in a sweaty panic, terrified that he’s lost…

…his pink hat.

Prager, one of today’s money winners at the 2014 PCA Main Event, achieved his Top 40 finish wearing that pink beanie, just as he has worn it for the past several days. While Prager is known to change his appearance from time to time, this is the first time we’ve seen this particular sartorial choice. It’s happened with good reason.

That’s Prager at EPT Snowfest with some sort of horned hat alongside EPT Media Coordinator Mad Harper. They were into the cocktails at the Goatstall Bar in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, and Prager looks back on it as a lucky time.

At first he thought switching to the same drinks would do him some good, but the exact make-up of his Snowfest intoxication was in doubt. Pro tip: booze as a rabbit’s foot only works if you don’t have so much booze you forget what you’re drinking.

Harper, meanwhile, had a brainstorm.

“I am going to lend Josh Prager my lucky pink Turks & Caicos SharkBite restaurant wooly hat to help out!” she declared, as she does. And so she did. Enter the Prager selfie.

All went well. While he didn’t build a huge stack, he survived through three brutal days of play and finished with a win worth more than $37,000.

Prager kept the hat pulled down so low that it was almost impossible to see his eyes (we’ve not yet determined how it was possible for him to see the cards).

Prager and the hat on PCA Live

It was a warm morning when Prager went out to the pool today, so he didn’t have it on his head. Worry ensued, followed by the kind of panic only a man with a pink hat can have.

“I suddenly had a nervous breakdown that I’d lost the hat,” he said. “Luckily it was in my room.”

Luck remained on Prager’s side until just moments ago when he went bust for a cash worth nearly four times his buy-in. It’s looking more and more like Harper might need to get her a new hat, because that pink one is probably going home with Prager.
