Home / Uncategorized / PokerStars Festival Manila: Revelling in Chaos

It’s all business in the poker room here today as our players have now reached the money, but last night it was a different story when they took a break from the tables to attend the PokerStars Festival Manila Players Party at Chaos Nightclub.

Situated just a 30-second walk from the poker room, Chaos proved to be the ideal venue. It’s been described as hatching a new breed of clubbing here in Manila, and with state-or-the-art interiors, a hydraulic DJ booth, LED curtains, built-in confetti machines, Kryo sprayers and 10 karaoke sky boxes, Chaos definitely lived up to the hype.

Players were treated to unlimited drinks and not all of those came in the form of a glass or bottle. After the dance troupe had taken to the stage to entertain the crowd they did the rounds with squirt guns full of vodka in search of thirsty patrons to shoot.

Following the dancers it was time for popular local DJ Khai Lim to keep the atmosphere buzzing. She spun mash ups of popular songs as people got up and danced themselves or enjoyed the music in the booths around the dancefloor.

And one man celebrating last night was current Asia Player of the Year frontrunner and birthday boy Sparrow Cheung. It’s Cheung’s birthday today so he was presented with a sparkler parade and cake during the festivities last night.

Cheung returned this afternoon for Day 2 of the Main Event and finished in 46th place. We’re sure he would’ve liked to make a deeper run but some more APOY points and a PHP112,000 score aren’t the worst birthday presents!

Later in the night the people keen to kick on headed up to the karaoke sky boxes for some impeccable performances and more free drinks. That’s about the time where our recollection gets slightly fuzzy but we can assure you that everyone was making the most of the merriment.

A few of last night’s guests are in the field here today, and while they may be looking a little worse for wear after partying into the early hours of the morning, they’re giving it their best shot at chasing that PHP5,515,000 (~$109,000) at the end of the rainbow.

The Main Event is down to just 36 players now and with a few levels left to play out we’ll see how many more fall by the wayside. You can tune in to PokerNews to follow all the action, and check back here at the PokerStars Blog later on for a full recap of today’s proceedings.
