February 10, 2017

The week is nearly at an end but not before we announce that the ranks of Team PokerStars Pro expanded by one this afternoon with the news that Igor Kurganov had become its newest member.

Kurganov, a super high roller of distinction who has played and won some of the biggest events in the poker world, has amassed tournament winnings in excess of $12 million, including a win in the Season 8 EPT Grand Final 8-Max High Roller worth more than $1.4 million, beating now fellow Team Pro Daniel Negreanu heads up.

That’s one line of a palmarès conspicuous for the number of deep finishes it contains from high stakes final tables around the world. Like most of the best players in the game, Kurganov’s career spans the live and online poker world. Online he has played under the username “lechuckpoker”, but as a Team PokerStars Pro you’ll find him at the tables as “igorkurganov”.

Away from the tables Kurganov is an ambassador for the charity Raising for Effective Giving (REG), through which he donates a portion of his winnings to charity.

“I’m as active in the game as I’ve ever been, so l’m excited to work with PokerStars on their future plans,” said Kurganov. “They have undoubtedly been, and will continue to be, the driving force in the poker market and the company that I believe provide the best poker experience for a wide range of players. Additionally, PokerStars are going to be supporting some of our plans with REG this year, which makes me really happy.”

It was a sentiment echoed by Vice President of Corporate Communications for PokerStars Eric Hollreiser, who spoke of what Kurganov will bring to PokerStars both at the tables and off them.

“Igor’s mathematical poker mind and passion for giving back to society represent some of the best traits in poker. We’re eager to have Igor contribute his talents to our brand and to our business. As an outspoken advocate for online and live poker players, he’ll contribute to our products, our policies and our promotion of live and online poker in Russia, Germany and serve as a global ambassador for poker as a member of Team Pro.”
