SCOOP 2021: Lex Veldhuis gets (really) close, denied by Padilha who makes it four

April 11, 2021inPoker

Lex Veldhuis came close to winning a SCOOP title. Really close. He was denied by Pedro Padilha, who made a career fourth. Ukraine’s VladTheSlaye, a player who has been on our radar for his success in the High Roller Club, earned his first. All this and more in today’s SCOOP bulletin:

TODAY’S HEADLINES

• Pedro “lgwZ” Grochocki wins $181k in Thursday Thrill
• Andrei “Premove”Skortsov earns second of career
• Lex comes very close, denied by Pedro Padilha
• High rolling reg VladTheSlaye wins first SCOOP title

BEHIND THE HEADLINES

Epic wins in $1M Thursday Thrill: The special edition Thursday Thrill attracted 539 entries for a total prize pool of over $1 million. With 26 players left, it looked like Yuri Martins and Mike Watson were in contention for another title, but in the end it was Canada’s “RaiseUpBlind” and Brazil’s Pedro “lgwZ” Grochocki who faced off heads-off. RaiseUpBlind came second for a total of $115,057. Grochocki got the final knockout and earned bounties of over $98k, bringing their first place total up to a whopping $181,683. This is Grockocki’s biggest ever win and first SCOOP title. Over in the Mini Thursday Thrill, “Heia_Eirik” of Norway earned a total of $91,427 for first place.

Second career title for Andrei Skortsov: Andrei “Premove”Skortsov has $1.8 million in online cashes, with three WCOOP titles to his name. He earned his first SCOOP in 2020, and just made it two career titles with an impressive win in the high stakes 8-Game event. Skortsov denied Japan’s Naoya “nkenyo” Kihara to take first place and $28,101. With huge scores in Omaha, Hold em, and 8-Game variations, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Skortov targeting more of these niche tourneys as SCOOP 2021 continues.

Pedro Padilha denies Lex SCOOP title: Undoubtedly

Pedro "PaDiLhA SP" Padilha, EPT Online 18 Champion

Ultimately, it was Pedro Padilha’s night. He earned his fourth career SCOOP title and $82k in the 29-H

the highlight of the evening, Brazil’s Pedro “PaDilhA SP” Padilha denied Lex Veldhuis his first SCOOP title in the 29-H. There were 211 entries to the tourney, and barely any of them soft. Among the final table players were five time SCOOP champion Talal Shakerchi (8th place) and four time SCOOP champion João Vieira (4th). It was an exceptional show for Lex’s fans, who followed his journey all the way to heads-up. All that stood in Lex’s way was Pedro “PaDiLhA SP” Padilha, a Brazilian pro with over $7.8 million in online cashes who was vying for his second career SCOOP. Padilha played a solid game and earned $82,354 for first place. Lex took second for $62,779, and his stream shows that he was more than happy with the result (see Twitch watch below).

VladTheSlaye is a SCOOP champion: Here’s a player who we’ve seen dominating the High Roller Club in recent years. “VladTheSlaye” of Ukraine has earned over $3.7 million in online cashes, including a second place finish in a Stadium Series Weekly Final worth $191k. But, up until now, they’ve never had a COOP title. After a heads-up deal with “b.a. angelov” to flatten out the prize jumps, VladTheSlaye took down the 29-M Freezeout for $40,726.

TWITCH WATCH

Twitch viewers were in on a very special treat on Saturday, with Lex Veldhuis showcasing an excellent run across several of his tables. Of particular note, of course, was his second place finish in the 29-H.

In this game changing hand, Lex makes a bet call with middle pair and wins a huge pot:

Here’s the final hand. Lex makes a standard shove, but Padilha has set a trap from the button. No hard feelings. Lex compliments the player’s skill, and seems very happy indeed with his $62k win:
