Don’t be alarmed, but the Ghost of ElkY Past is haunting Las Vegas.
It’s been years since his last live final table. It’s been years since his last live six-figure score. It’s been years since he won a live poker tournament.
Forget all that, because Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier’s may be about to book his biggest win yet. Moments ago, ElkY finished the second day of the $111,111 World Series of Poker High Roller for One Drop with a massive chip lead.
With nine players remaining, ElkY is at the very top with a nearly 2-1 chip lead…over second place.
Few people have ever questioned ElkY’s poker talent. Ever since he made the jump from professional gaming to professional poker, he’s been a tidal force, one that’s racked up more than $11 million in earnings, one that has won WPT and EPT titles, and one that already has a WSOP bracelet. He made his bones a long time ago, so few people have yelled very loudly about the little drought he’s been in.
But it’s been a real thing. Though he’s been out rounding the world picking up decent scores here and there, the last time he had a six-figure live cash was four years ago today.
Now, ElkY has guaranteed himself at last $312,000. And up top of the prize pool? Well, that first prize is worth $3,686,865. That’s the kind money ElkY racked up nine years ago when he booked two seven-figure first place prizes.
It will not be easy. I mean, just check out who he’s playing against tomorrow.
Bertrand Grospellier | 16,825,000 | |
---|---|---|
Martin Jacobson | 8,890,000 | |
Dario Sammartino | 7,975,000 | |
Chris Moore | 7,600,000 | |
Andrew Robl | 6,670,000 | |
Doug Polk | 6,090,000 | |
Rainer Kempe | 5,760,000 | |
Michael Kamran | 3,470,000 | |
Haralabos Voulgaris | 2,865,000 |
The top four spots tomorrow will all earn more than a million bucks. Will ElkY be one of them? If he’s summoned the ElkY of 2008, you can bet on it.
